I found a website that tracks gas prices and has a few cool things. The thing I like the best is that it has a fuel logbook. You input each of your gas purchases and it calculates mpg and stuff. The one I use is: http://www.birminghamgasprices.com

But I think they have one for most cities. The parent site for birminghamgasprices.com is http://www.gasbuddy.com/ and that's a national site. You can drill down to your specific city.

Just FYI

Why is it that only California that doesn't have 93 octane in normal stations? Seriously what the hell is wrong with us?

Consider the fact that I used to drive 120 miles per day at that price and you'd think I was insane. Now I ride BART or Caltrain (BART is our subway like system for those who don't know- Caltrain is like a commuter Amtrak) to work every other day. I save about $10 a week on gas and only put up with the traffic headache 2 times a week.

It is all those special processing for California gas formulations. The oil refiners claim it drives up the prices for processing - there are only a few places that can do the work to meet the state mandated stuff and they don't bother doing it with 93 octane.

If you live in la-la land (I am here too), you get to deal with the la-la land issues.

Seriously is Cali trying to be its own nation or what? Why can't it just follow the federal laws like everyone else instead of inventing retarded ones? I think we have too much time on our hands and make up stupid laws as a result. Either that or Californians are just mentally challenged.

It's the countries biggest car market and there's more drivers here than anywhere else. Have you noticed how many of those drivers are in old beaters that smoke and cause all types of pollution? Are you aware of how tough the smog law are out here now? They are making most cars due for registration that are 94 and under go to Test only Smog Stations (stations that don't do repairs). 60% of those cars fail smog and end up at shops like mine for smog repairs. On average they spend $300-$1000 to fix their car just to pass smog.

The state will help those with low income with the smog repairs necessary, but they require the customer to spend at least $450 out of pocket before they're eligible for assistance. What's even worse is the majority of the time the customer doesn't actually have a problem with their car (emissions wise). All they're doing is updating o2 sensors, CAT's, EGR's etc. just to meet current California standards.

It's obvious that California is trying to get older cars off the road by creating these smog laws in addition to providing incentives like carpool lane useage and no bridge tolls for Hybrid or Natural Gas Vehicle drivers. I understand the concept but they're going about it the wrong way.
