Gas pedal sticks on 98 QX4

About 50% of the time, when accelerating from a stop, my gas pedal gets "stuck" and I must push down with quite a bit of force to unstick it. Of course, the car takes off very fast at this point.

What is causing this?

Filthy, slimey, throttle body dirt from PCV oil vapors mixing with carbon from EGR condensing in the colder throttle body assembly......usual cause.

How many times have you had TB/plenum cleaned in 8 years?
