Mine is also in break-in, 300 miles and counting, but getting around 21mpg. 50/50 city/hway. I expected it to be around that number and will get better as we passed break-in period.Herkypilot wrote:Well I didn't believe it but I just calculated 27.1 MPG on my new '09 - third fill-up. I'm still in the break-in at 650 miles on the odo so I'm trying hard to keep it below 4K rpm. I've been driving about 70% hwy/30% city. This is MPG I can live with in this car - quite a deal!

Strange that you asked because I tried the manual shift yesterday and I was caught by surpise when the engine rev up more than I anticipated. I need to familiarize myself on how this AT works. The problem is that this is my wife's car and so I will seldom drive it. She will use the D/DS most of the time even though she can drive an MT. This AT is also an idiot proof car in which it will not allow you shift to a higher gear when your RPM is not high enough for that specific gear.silver37 wrote:Question...do either of you notice the 3-2 downshift between 20 and 25 mph? I'm finding it tough to modulate smooth braking when I hit that speed....especially since I have the S model and the big brakes and rotors.
Yes, I also noticed that, but I'm use to it as I just came out of a VW Jetta turbo diesel with a DSG transmission that did about the same thing with engine braking. Not a big deal. I was looking at the VW CC also when I bought this car. The CC was pretty nice, but not really in the same league as the G-37. A CC with the VR6 engine only had about 2 mpg more on the EPA sticker.silver37 wrote:Sounds great. I'm doing mostly city driving, and getting 19+. Probably 20-25 of those miles would be considered highway miles. I'm thinking it will definitely start going up once I stop giving it so much gas. It's definitely addictive.

Pretty new to the forums but wanted to add that im getting 24city and about 28 highway.just did my first oil change a couple weeks ago and also added a bottle of lucas fuel injector cleaner.I mean i know that alot of people dont like useing this stuff but before i started useing it i was getting about 19 city and 22 highwayand have used it on all my cars and they have always increased in MPG's when i use it.Herkypilot wrote:Well I didn't believe it but I just calculated 27.1 MPG on my new '09 - third fill-up. One of the things that I've noticed in the 3 1/2 years of owning my G is that in temperatures above 40 degrees my gas mileage improves by a few MPG. My worst mileage is in temperatures below freezing and the colder it is the worse the mileage. Winter grade gasoline could also be a contributing factor which is something Florida residents do not have to contend with.Tampa G35 Sedan 6MT wrote:The G has really come a long way... I get 25-27mph on 70/30 split... My last fill up was all stop and go and I got 23mpg... I was so happy!
