I have a 95 240 se with 170k on it. I get 250-280 miles per tank, is that normal? i heard from other 240 owners thats below the mileage that i should be getting. What do you guys think i should do, tune up? new engine? What? Thanks

The 240 has a big gas tank. Divide the milage by the gallons of gas!!!

I'll try to help you out here. What kind of driving do you do? If those are mostly highway miles, then you definitely need some work.

If they're all city, then you're not too far off. I would make sure the car has a good tune-up anyway. Make sure your O2 sensors are good. When they're fouled, they really waste a ton of gas and power suffers as well.

Driving style also has a lot to do with it. Are you on the throttle all the time?

I used to get horrible gas milage with my s14. Around 18-20 miles to the gallon. Since I've installed my afc I get 27.7 mpg.

yeah i gotta get a new o2 sensor, i didnt know that made that big of a difference but i guess so. I drive about half city and half freeway. The o2 sensor runs at 100, and i heard the stock o2 is better then a after market one so yeah, i got a price from the dealership its 100 bucks. So you think the tune up will do a big difference?

How about you guys start talking in mpg instead of miles per tank. Reason being, my gauge would hit empty around 300 miles but I could go over 400 on a tank. Might wanna check that out.

I'm getting mid 20's mpg with a mixture of highway and city driving in my '89 240sx. But last time at the race track (Summit Point Raceway), I got a whopping 8 mpg.

Ive had my 96 240sx se for over four yrs and the det motor for three and if the car is practically running on fumes you can cram any where between 14.5 and 15.5 gallons in(its a 15 gallon tank i believe). Forgive my memory as my motor has a hole through the side and my new block is on the garage floor. therefor i havent flown my car in a while. I live in dallas and have made 4 trips to cali. Mostly for visits but one was for the swap(beacause I f@#ked my motor on the way there) and the other to see Jim wolf in el cajon and the average mileage I got was atleast 400 on the highway and in town it is normally 280 to 330 depending on how you drive. Thats with both motors. The S-AFC is made by apex. It can lean out or richin the fuel mixture and a number of other features such as monitor. Great for tuning on the dino, even if you do have jim wolf ecu. Theyre not perfect. Im not new to this site. I just dont normally post. Right now Im not driving moms car..........its my girlfriends. :ylsuper

by the way in town gas mileage would probably average about 17- 22 or so and on the highway depending on how fast your turning in fifth gear 22-27. This is assuming the o2 sensor is good. Youde be surprised how much better gas mileage you get if you unplug the front sensor and run it in open. the afc would definitly help tuning on the highway as well. You just need to know how rich or lean your running. Because you can burn your engine up if you dont know what your doing because the afc is not easy to tune at first. It takes a while to get familiar to it.

Stock gas tank is 17 1/8 gallons. I guess i get around 21-24 in town, and 28 or better on the highway.

Haha!Seems like alot of new owners are shocked at how crappy our gas mileage is!I too was shocked when I first drove mine, but you get used to it.

Regular maintenance, and not redlining every gear helps ALOT.If you're tight on cash, shift at 3,000rpms.

My mechanic can get replacement O2 sensors for my Q for around $35 each. Much better than the $49 from sparkplugs.com and FAR better than the dealer price.

Anybody need a pair, I think I can get more.

Damn thats one damn good price, im in ca though, do you think you can ship it?

you might wanna email AZ about it i don't know how often he monitors the 240 section.

yeah ninja, it seems a lot of nissan's have notsogood gas mileage and use premium only. but they're beautiful! guys spend more money on hot GF's. it works the same with cars.

I use 91 octane gas. Is that the only gas you can put in the 240? I dont know if it is because thats all I put in it.

When my '89 was new it ran fine on 89 octane, but after 100K miles, she started knocking unless I used premium, so I've been using premium ever since. No complaints and I'm closing in on 190K
