What gets better gas mileage, the KA or the SR.

I am wondering because I am wondering whether I should trash my 91 fastback and get an s14(which I don't really care for),or keep it and drop a different motor in.

I just wanted to get better city mileage cuz i am always tooling around Downtown Tampa.

Keep the S13, weather you go SR or not, throw in a good quality O2 Sensor. That should get you a good range. My 93 240 gets about 350 city miles to the tank.

wouldnt matter sr or ka. the KAde would prob get better mileage bc it doesnt use a turbo which can eat up a lot of gas.

if you drive without redlining it all the time on the sr, you should get decent mileage, ill talk to some guys i know who have them and get back to you on it.

redlining? wtf?! you should NEVER redline all the time. why the hell would u do that unless your planning to blow the motor. I have an sr20det, and i know that it eats up a lot more gas than the ka24de did bc of the turbocharger. You should get decent mileage with the sr if you shift at around 3k-3.5k. if u want better mileage w/the sr than get a good O2 sensor and prob upgrde ur fuel pump. geez

Hmmm, i suggest never redlining. But seriously, its not like one is an SUV or anything. Once you pay for the SR and all the **** that goes wrong in installation the gas difference wont even matter

Gas milage = Engine power / Leadfootedness

Many studies have concluded that leadfootedness exponentialy increases as engine power goes up :D

yeah im sure the SR is no SUV, but I need to keep getting at least 300 city.Of course, I think I have decided to keep the s13 and buy another daily driver.Oh, and I have HICAS, but I have it disconnected.Should that be good enough for track use, or am I screwed altogether?

i dont know about you guys...but my friggin 1.8 drinks gas like a sailor.

actually its okay as long as it stays in vacuum. but once i hit that one pound of boost....wooooop...

and i dont do too much highway driving. so i believe i am getting approximately 12 mpg.

What rpm do you usually start getting boost?

I shift my ka at 2500 rpm, just enough so that it doesn't start bogging in the next gear. And when I'm driving on the highway, I usually accelerate quickly till about 85, then put the car in neutral until it slows down to 65 or so. Then repeat... :)

I think I get about 23 mpg with a combination of highway/city driving. So I guess that's about right.

Ya, i shift at like 2500k. Depending on how far i drive, i can go a couple weeks w/o refilling. But the amount of driving ive been doing lately thats not the case

If you drive aggressive and have sticky tires, your mileage will be hurtin'. After 100K of pushing mine hard, running up into the 6000's a lot and rarely shifting below 3000, I was dropping down to 20-22 mpg in the city. The 2.4 can take some punishment.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the S14 body style just doesn't compare with the S13 in my book.

i shift around 4k. how much throttle and and how long all depends on the situation. whether it be speed up or stay quiet.

Well, when I first got my SR I was only getting about 12mpg, but as I have become used to the power, it is slowly increasing, currently I am cruising at around 17mpg.

okay so what about a turbo'd KA?

I saw one on ebay that had 410rwhp.

Do you think they would get better or worse mileage than an SR with comparable power?
