I have a 2011 AWD Journey so it has the 7AT. I find that it seems happiest on fairly level back roads where it can roll along between 35 and 50. Under those conditions my onboard computer will report between 25 and 28 mpg (with a light foot). The highway, if able to go steady speeds, will climb much more slowly, even right after a computer reset, and top out about 26. The mileage drops like a stone when I start hitting the short hops between traffic lights or stop and go traffic in the city or sometimes on the highway. I usually get about 18 when there is a lot of city driving, and most often am between 19 and 21. Punching it as I row my own to get on the highway tends to bring a mpg penalty. BTW due to high prices I have been running regular. Today was my first fuel up with premium in months. I don't see any impact on mileage, but I do feel a loss of midrange power which may be why I have to drop into manual shifting to jump ahead on the highway. I find that the onboard computer is more optimistic than between fill up hard numbers by .5 to 1 mpg. A couple of weeks ago I tried hypermiling. Real gentle on the throttle, shifting into neutral for highway exits and downhill stretches and the computer showed over 24 mpg at tank end but the fill up had it under 22. Made me think it wasn't worth the trouble. I've wondered if the car's cross bars cost some turbulence loss that doesn't register on the computer. I plan to take them off for the winter to see if it results in the two ways of measuring being more aligned.

If I use regular or mid-grade, which is once in a while because gas is so expensive here, I notice a slightly lower mileage, say 16 mpg on premium, maybe 15 on regular. Okay I know I didn't buy this car for the gas mileage, but it would be nice to get better than what I'm getting.
I drove to San Diego this Saturday, (100 miles at approximately 80 mph and another 20 miles stop and go) and I averaged 23 mpg. You guys averaging 27 mpg, what speeds are you averaging at?
