gas mileage

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

This is interesting, especially for a 3% difference:

I never received the advertised city gas mileage with my 2008 EX, and I remember a lot of people here complaining about the same. So maybe we should expect a gift card soon from Nissan/Infiniti as well :chuckle:

In my city there are traffic lights at almost every intersection so probably that's why I don't get better mileage. On highway I too saw 26mpg though

If I drive mostly city streets, I'm lucky to get 16 mpg. The highest I ever got was 23 mpg and that's pure freeway speeds, non-stop. And no, I don't get to use my leadfoot except when I'm going out of town.

Is there is secret to how you guys are getting such great mileage numbers? I swear I'm not leadfooted most of the time :chuckle:

i have know idea what octane do you use?
My Fiat has a usB port and a flash drive that monitors my driving habits then I plug the flash into my pc and it tells me how I been drving and what to do to increase my mpg and save my brakes and so one.

I wonder how these estimates define city or highway. I always buy 93 v-power from Shell. On my way to work, in about 3-4 miles, I have to go through 12 traffic lights, and have to stop at least at half of them. Speed limit is 30 miles, and below in some areas. I think that is why I am getting low mileage.

I use mostly 91 octane, which is the premium grade in So Cal. If I use regular or mid-grade, which is once in a while because gas is so expensive here, I notice a slightly lower mileage, say 16 mpg on premium, maybe 15 on regular. Okay I know I didn't buy this car for the gas mileage, but it would be nice to get better than what I'm getting.

I drove to San Diego this Saturday, (100 miles at approximately 80 mph and another 20 miles stop and go) and I averaged 23 mpg. You guys averaging 27 mpg, what speeds are you averaging at?

I have a 2011 AWD Journey so it has the 7AT. I find that it seems happiest on fairly level back roads where it can roll along between 35 and 50. Under those conditions my onboard computer will report between 25 and 28 mpg (with a light foot). The highway, if able to go steady speeds, will climb much more slowly, even right after a computer reset, and top out about 26. The mileage drops like a stone when I start hitting the short hops between traffic lights or stop and go traffic in the city or sometimes on the highway. I usually get about 18 when there is a lot of city driving, and most often am between 19 and 21. Punching it as I row my own to get on the highway tends to bring a mpg penalty. BTW due to high prices I have been running regular. Today was my first fuel up with premium in months. I don't see any impact on mileage, but I do feel a loss of midrange power which may be why I have to drop into manual shifting to jump ahead on the highway. I find that the onboard computer is more optimistic than between fill up hard numbers by .5 to 1 mpg. A couple of weeks ago I tried hypermiling. Real gentle on the throttle, shifting into neutral for highway exits and downhill stretches and the computer showed over 24 mpg at tank end but the fill up had it under 22. Made me think it wasn't worth the trouble. I've wondered if the car's cross bars cost some turbulence loss that doesn't register on the computer. I plan to take them off for the winter to see if it results in the two ways of measuring being more aligned.

It also depends how you're calculating the mpg. The On board display is somewhat optimistic by 1-2mpg. I assume the same data is passed through the OBD port for anyone using it to report to their PC. I generally measure by filling up (at the same station) until it clicks off and dividing the miles driven by the gallons filled. I get about 18mpg suburban driving and 24mpg highway that way.

my display is usually off + 0.2-0.5, not not much more than that.

I find the sweet spots for cruising and max MPG is around 40 city or 70-75 HWY... last combined tank 65% city / 35% hwy was 20.3 MPG
