Okay so I usually set my tires to 35 psi well I was heading to Tennessee for the day to visit my dad and I decided to put them to 40 just to experiment. I usually see about 375-390 a tank and that's with my foot in the pedal going 80-100 mph on the highway here and there when I'm running late for work well I was very shocked that when I got down to Tennesse I was inbetween half a tank and 3/4 so I drove around town the day going out to eat and going to gun shops etc. so I hit the road later on coming back to cincinnati and I drove straight home I averaged 80 mph with cruise control on but I did hit the govenor at 111mph a couple of times when I ran into anyways I got 478 miles to the tank now I know traveling highway your going to see more because your not always stopping at red lights and such but I think the 40 psi had a lot to do with it. Is it just me or am I just ignorant when it comes to this kind of thing? anyone else experiment with this ?

I filled up and I am back to routine driving and I kept the tires at 40 psi (I checked to make sure they're still at 40) so I'll see here in a few days and see if it does help but an extra 100 miles to the tank is nice the only thing I don't like is that you feel the road more with the tire pressure set this high but hey I'll deal with it for the extra mileage

cool cool try it and post back I have the QR25 for the record but we'll see I just checked and i have 268 miles and I'm sitting on a half of a tank so I doubt I'll see in the high 400s but I think I'll definately see a difference in mileage

The main killer of gas mileage is acceleration. If you drive your daily like a grandma from the stop light and keep the speed 70 or less. You will see a dramatic improvement in mileage. Also, plan your accelerations down hills so you can let off a little on the uphill and slow back down to cruising speed. Try it for a tank and see what happens. I went from 33 mpg to a best of 39 mpg in my civic.

And tire pressure makes a huge difference. I always try to keep mine at 35 psi. My tires are el cheapo's so they don't retain that high of a pressure for more than a week so I have to keep pumping them up.

Ethanol blended gas also takes a chunk out of mileage. I lose about 15% with 15% blend and the price difference is definitely not 15% so I run regular 87 octane gas.

35 is ideal pressure even Nissan recommends 29 psi. 40 psi is to risky, your tire may explode (especially with China tires) and :-( . The tips are slow acceleration and cruise at 60-70 mph. I got more than 31 mpg from Tallahassee, FL to Chicago, IL round trips 1800 miles, with 32 psi, AC on, July 2009. In town, I only got 20-26 mpg with many short trips <3 miles.
