Just wondering what kind of gas mileage everyone is getting now that they've owned their Versas for a bit? I got mine in August and now have over 12,000 miles on it. I commute back and forth to work on the interstate about 90 miles round trip and average about 27 mpg. I've only reached 30 mpg once. Our dealer has attributed it to the "break-in period" which I was first told was 5000 miles, then 10,000 and now I'm at 12,000 and no improvement. The temperature hasn't been cold here except for the last month and that has dropped my mileage to about 24 mpg. Is anyone gettting better mileage than this?

I have a 1.8 automatic that I drive 90 miles round trip to work and the lowest I have ever gotten is 28 and that was on super unlead at 91 octane. It averages 31 and 32 on 87 octane regular unlead. It does tend to like the regular instead of the super as the milage always drops when I put super in.

well I would expect that too, as the higher octane burns faster and cleaner.

Indeed. the only reason to use high grade gasoline is if your engine knocks or pings on low grade gas.

Oh, and don't forget to run fuel injector cleaner through your car every so often to keep things in tip top shape. Depending on the brand of gas you use the interval for this cleaner will be different.

If you replied to the one I sent at 7 re: your title and contacting AZhitman about advertising, then it may have been caught by comcast's spam filter. Sometimes it does that to people I've already emailed, it's one of the more irritating things in the world.

If you have another email address, try sending it from there.

All 3 or 4 (depending on where you live) grades produce the same amount of energy when burned. The octane rating exist to show how much pressure can be applied to the gas before it will spontaneously ignite (aka knocking and pinging). As a side effect of increasing the octane, you make the fuel harder to ignite. This is where the performance decrease comes from.

I'm not an engineer but I suspect that one reason for lower mileage using the "super" unleaded is that it has ethanol added where the regular unleaded does not have the ethanol added.

The "super" usually costs a little less while giving up some mileage. That's why I'll be using the regular unleaded for EV's mileage activity, assuming that most V's will be using that product.

As soon as that's over, I'll go the ethanol product. Have used it for over 500k miles with nary a problem and it helps my neighbors in the corn belt.

You are correct my cloned friend. I didn't even think about that one. Some companies use ethanol to raise octane ratings. Although companies can include ethanol to raise 85 to 87. I think I remember reading somewhere that pure ethanol produces 33% less energy than gas and in a mix it's 3%. So I guess depending on how much is used, that's how much of a reduction you will see.

Must be a regional thing then. Super unleaded here is at least, if not more than, 20 cents per gallon more than regular unleaded.

I also hadn't heard of ethanol usage for that purpose, but then again here we cut all of our gas with 10% ethanol during the winter.

The ethanol market must vary as in my area super and unlead are the same price almost always. The alcohol burns cooler and requires more energy to burn hence the lower economy. I do tend to burn super most of the time as I live in the corn belt and my job is ag related so I like to help my neighbors. I ran the unlead several tanks and the super several tanks to see what the difference would be.
