Sure,

Replace Vh45, with

Hybrid Synergry drive, from Hybrid Toyota Camry, Highlander, or Prius.

seriously tho. Driving a 4.5L V8 gas milage should NOT be an issue. I get less than 20 mpg as it is. Buy a Spare car like a celica/corolla/tercel from the early 90's.

Old Q [before 1994] without TCS or Active gets the same [or better] mpg as modern 4.5 M45/Q45:

17 city 23 highway 18 mpg combined loop per Motorweek test, Consumer Reports/AAA chose 2003 M45 for test and got 16.9 mpg.

I regularly take 3000 mile round trips (in 6 days) and my mileage runs between 20 and 22 mpg. This last trip in January was 20.7 mpg - 2818 miles and 136.03 gallons. Mine's in perfect running condition, Michelin 235/60 Pilots on 15" rims at 38psi. And I'm usually the fastest car in the left lane.

That's just about what I got on my trip to FL. Plus, I have 267K on it and it still got what I consider good mileage for a Q for averaging 85 MPH for 12 hours.

Any year Q or M is just not a gas mileage car. You don't really get THAT much better gas mileage with a 6 cylinder. My 84 300ZX got like 27 on the highway, sometimes better without lead foot, but it only weighs 3000 and 3.0 liter. I never got better than 23 overall but I always liked to drive fast.

Botton line my 97' Q gets 20 overall and i think that is pretty good. I get 23 on highway trips on the 101 or 5 from SF to LA.

More whining about gas milage.

Geez...

People amaze me. They buy a large V8 powered PERFORMANCE sedan, and then they complain about gas milage. What did you expect?

If you're really that concerned with it, go buy an Insight.

There is a reason a 3 liter engine is considered large in most of the world.

Worth noting: My 180hp 2.5 gets 23 on the highway and 18 in town. The VH45 really isnt that bad on gas, in a relative sense. It also has to carry a 3900lb car with a 150-250lb driver.

Fuel consumption is directly related to the HP/torque you demand - moment to moment.

Each HP requires a fairly specific amount of gasoline burned to create.

As one sees most engines are all fairly equal in efficiency under 3,000 rpm.

If one can get over 22MPG in a 4000lb V8 luxury car, i wouldnt be whining...

I dont calculate gas mileage anymore..... I dont even watch the pump when I put the gas in, just pump the gas and get out before the monetary damage is revealed

I think I'd get much better mileage if I didn't like nailing the crap out of my Q on a daily basis...how can you resist punching it and seeing that Tach rev to limit and shift hard, that is WHY I had to have a V8 to begin with!!! When gas was really high I was using my new X-Terra which doesn't much better than my Q but uses 87 at least and isn't as fun to fly to 60 mph.

This reminds me when I was selling my 04 STi. First question out of their mouths was "what kind of fuel economy does it get?" My response was always "there is a Honda dealership just down the road and go buy yourself a civic if you want fuel economy!" And then they would ask about the insurance and again I gave them the same answer.

I buy cars because I like the way they look and drive. I don't give 2 ****s about the type of fuel and the economy it gets. Just my $0.02.

Well Said.

When gas was about $3/gallon up here during the whole hurricane deal down south, my driving habits didnt change one bit. Still used 92 or 93 octane, etc. I don't use a car for just gettting from Point A to Point B, I like to have fun inbetween.

My Q45 when runing was getting bout 21MPG with daily driving it to and from work at bout 75MPH. I dont know exacly how it would perform if I was driving it with fuel efficiency in mind, but I shall find out soon- I hope them brand new 02 sensors I got for it will help a lil bit.

I got 521 miles out of 17 gallons of gas in my Maxima when I took a trip to WI this summer, loaded up with lots of camping equippment in the car that must have weight over 350lbs, 2 people onboard driving very efficiently. ****ing before 3K RPM and under very light throttle, never going faster than 80MPH in some parts of my trip = 31MPG. On my very heavy foot, I usually average bout 24MPG driving to and from work. VQ35s can only dream of those numbers my 140K mile VQ30 can get ! Here is a pic of the speedo showing 300 miles on half tank of gas, I took the picture while driving home durring that trip I got 521 on the tank.... dissregard the odometer reading, its a new speedo cluster that I wanted since I got the car- its no the actual mileage of the car :P
