Gas Mileage on M45

Well I installed my injen and installed it like a week ago now and just went thru my first full tank on the intake and I must say I was getting 240-no more than 250 when light would come on and with first tank I got 275 and still had 1/8th of a tank... I'm most happy with that but not sure about performance..

What did you get for total miles when the light came on?
Same type of Highway to city driving?
What did the computer MPG say?

Reason we ask is MOST if not ALL CAI with nothing else done does not net any improvement. You would think it would since more air in is always good but it seems not to be the case with Infiniti! They are just geared too high in 5th! 75-80 MPH should not be over 3,000 RPM just not right!

This is because the car tries to keep a specific A/F ratio in the engine. Giving more air makes the engine try and put out more fuel to keep the ratio correct.

Well I have had the car for few months now and have made 2 trips to college station and around Houston put 3k on it already... before the Injen i never got over 250 to a tank even when on just freeway.. today I got gas and the light came on as i was pulling in to gas station and and i was at 300.1.... everything I have ready says we have a 20.1 gallon tank and should get 17 city 23 highway and 20 combo..

The only way to really test is to do a specific distance7-13 miles level highwY(PLENTY OF THAT ON THE WAY TO cs ON 6) withuot the add-on. Run both ways on cruise at a set speed.
Then install the add=on, run both ways at same set speed.

Both times you clear the computer and start it at the same mile marker.

There are a ton of variables that could affect the mpg seeming better.
The placibo effect is just one.

Your picture there is extremely misleading. I've been averaging just over 23 MPG since summer gas (on-screen and calculator method), and I sometimes have over 350 miles on a tank (not sure on an exact number, possibly as high as 390) before the low fuel light comes on. If you were actually averaging 28 MPG, you could go AT LEAST 420 miles before the light came on, probably more like 475-504. Also, regarding mcrews suggestion, even that test would have to be run multiple times to average out the averages since conditions change constantly. Also, if your tank was full and you had the light coming on at 250, that would imply between 14 and 15 mpg. I'm guessing that you never had the fuel filling difficulty TSB performedand you are either using a different pump or the pump you normally use is running at a different speed, leading to more gas in the (still not full) tank. Combine that with the fact that your on-screen mileage calculator has no clue what it's talking about, and you really can't possibly have any clue whether or not that intake has affected your MPGs.

Unless you hit reset while going down the road or do nothing but coast down a long hill on your way home from the gas station, I find it hard to believe you got an M45 to average 28 mpg on any trip, so I still say that picture is misleading. Assuming you hit reset, then that number might be accurate, but it would have made just as much sense to take a picture of the instant since that's pretty much what the average shows after a reset.

Am I missing something? 21 gallon tank, 300 miles before light comes on. So lets say 300 miles on 18 gallons = 16.6 MPG. My Volvo has real time MPG readings and when I am going down hill coasting it says 99.9 MPG. I should take a picture of that and say my car gets incredible gas mileage. After I hit reset on my 2003 M45 going down the freeway, I too get 28 MPG, for that particular interval, but we all know it's not the true average. It does make you feel good and looks good for a photo.

I installed a CAI about a year ago. I was averaging 18.6 before installing the CAI. I now average 18.2 a year later. My driving habits have not changed, and when I drove long distance on the highway, I got about 28MPG as well. I typically get about 300 on a tank before I have to refill.
