Is there any way to improve the gas mileage in the J30? I've heard that with high flow air filters there is a sustantial improvement in gas consumption efficiency. Is that true?. If that is true, do you recommend such kind of filters in the J30? Another question: if most of the Nissan engines are very effcient in gas consumption, why the J30 engine does not have such feature? I'll appreciate your comments.

What kind of mielage are you getting. For the J, average (at least what ive seen) is about 16-17 highway, and about 22-25 higway...

I get a kick out of when people post gas mileage complaint threads... Old infiniti and gas mileage shouldnt be in the same sentance. If you spend lots of money on an old Q, you can pull off 24mpg but thats about it.... AC use and going over 75? forget it!!!

Airfilters? Only go OEM, anything else will filter worse (more dirt in engine=less engine life) and WILL NOT (repeat) get better mielage.

Peoples use of the word CITY has a wide variation in real meaning,

100% idling is zero mpg.

Since manufacturers pay taxes based on product fuel consumption you must consider they did almost everything possible to reduce it in the design with the engine size they installed.

Driving with a fresh egg under the accelerator is about all that is possible.

Installing a really stiff spring to require more foot effort works, also.

Buying real gasoline without oxygenates [ethanol/mtbe] improves mpg by 5-10%. Fresh O2 sensors can improve highway mpg by 6-15% [without oxygenates].

Most city losses are from the high friction of rear diff until you exceed 15-25 mph......synthetic diff fluid helps here [1%].

I have not been able to confirm Octane affects gas mileage. It does affect HP, though. If you like being aboe to pass people easily, then keep the premium. If you want to save money, buy a Honda.

Think about how much gas you buy, and then calculate how much you actually spend per year on gas. 89 Octane is about $.17 or $.18 less per gallon than 93. That is less than 10%. If you spend $5,000.00 per year on gas, then you can save as much as $500.00 or about $10 per week. It's not worth it to me, for the performace loss alone.

J30's gas mileage is horrible. I own one...nothing short of getting it towed will improve gas mileage. save your money for gas rather than investing in high-flow air filters and other whimsical nonsense that will do nothing other than give you a placebo effect of improvement.. Certain air filters will create turbulence throwing off readings at the MAF.. Nissans are very vulnerable to this..there are even TSB's for this issue pertaining to K&N cone filters that get oiled.

Enjoy the car..get a honda if you want to save gas.. I came close..I got a mazda..lol

Gasoline is a minor cost of vehicle ownership and operation if vehicle is maintained to standard. Insurance, depreciation, interest, principal

But After most cut out the maintenance [10-15 -20 cents per mile], gasoline is all that is left to try to save a penny or two per mile.

Probably easier to take a part time job to pay for a car than to try to redesign it to save fuel cost.....since all one need is an extra few thousand per year for fuel......no matter how much it sucks up.

The surburan sprawl has left many diving more than the daily US average 25 miles round trip to work and play. I see and hear it every day, people driving 120 miles per day......700 miles per week in traffic. ~~$280 per week in a cheap economical car [IRS rate] if everything that should be done is done.
