Tune up time.Break out the timing light as well and buy you some mas air flow sensor cleaner. Check all your sensor plugs for corrosion.I was having the same issues, it turned out to be a failing maf sensor connector. Had some green corrosion. A good cleaning of all my connectors and a tune up had me getting 25mpg.

When I first got my car I got pretty crappy low 20's mileage w/ the automatic trans. As soon as it was a 5spd, I could get 28.89mpg highway.

I got real real bad MPG right after I installed my header. ~19-22 (cruise control for the whole tank at 70mph on the highway) -- Mileage was just as bad w/ the stock exhaust as it was open header.

It continued to be bad like that until I had a 2.5'' exhaust fabbed up for the car. Suddenly I jumped to ~27-28mpg highway.

I don't know if this will help you... but that was what I observed. The cause seems apparent, but I have no way of knowing if that was the cause of the improvement or not.

If you have not had anything done to the car, check it over and tune up things that need attention. Air filter, check compression, check condition of plugs and wires, maybe condition of injectors, and then everything you can think of that is electrical, lastly all your emissions stuff.

A fualty knock sensor can also cause terrible gas mileage. Same holds true for the CLT sensor. Replace atleast the CLT sensor first and see if that fix's it, they are cheap.

First thing to do however is a basic tune up, plugs, wires, cap and rotor.
