Gas light on with 1/2 a tank??

my gas light just came on after i filled up, went off for a few minutes right after and came on and has stayed on since. The gauge also started flucuating up to 3/4 from a cold start and settles down back to half. Just replaced the old pump that blew with a wally 255, any common problems with this? Only thing I can think of is when i installed the new pump it didnt line up correctly but that was almost 2 weeks ago and the problem just started now
