Gas leak from top of fuel top hat.

Hey guys.

might be a goofy question. But on sunday night i filled the car up full (s13 coupe) 3rd time i've done it since the cars been done this year.

I noticed after i left the gas station a gas smell. thought maybe i got some on my pants or shoes. went out to dinner and hung out with a few friends took it home noticed it still. Once i got back home i looked under the car and saw a little leak. Took the stuff out of the trunk and noticed the top hat was wet with fuel. So i went to Nissan got a new O-ring. and replaced it. Yet i still had a leak, so i went and got new bolts for the top hat, and used some thread sealer and it still leaks. All the lines from the top had to the fuel rail are NEW.

What else could it be?

Could be a hair line crack within the tank itself. Those lines can be a PITA and can leak at ANY time lol. Double check the hoses and top of the tank. Hopefully you haven't filled it all the way up again. 2JZ's don't like 1/4 tanks too well.

See when the gas goes down if the smell goes away. If it does, more than likely you'll have to drop the tank and inspect the top of it. Use a siphon if you have to.

Razi - The 2nd part.

Lobo - I never run anywhere near 1/4 tank. i usually don't go past 1/2. All the lines are An fittings and are in good shape. I had the tank out of the car a few months ago and it seemed fine. hard to believe the tank just cracked in the last few months. i'm going to allow the tank to go down some on gas and see.

Maybe there is a leak near the filler neck overflow thingy?

It looks like there is a rubber hose that goes down into a small elbow at the top of the gas tank, maybe it's leaking from there.

could your top plate be warped?

my car smells awful as well, I thought it was from running 11:1 afr ,but its unburnt fuel I smell, the lines from the hardlines are new and the oring is oem and new. It seems like when I turn hard right I smell it worse. I have found no leaks,but after getting 200 miles to the tank I have been scared off lol.

Only other thing I think is off is my gas cap does not hiss at all?

My car has the same problem when making hard right turns...strong fuel smell.
