Part 1:I noticed that I have gas in my oil and this occured after going through some issues with a dead ECU. I was wondering what could cause gas to get in the oil? Could it be bad piston rings from running lean? Or could it be a leaky injector? Or what could be causing this?

Part 2:What are the ill effects of driving the car with gas in the oil? can any more damage be done than what has already occured? Thanks.

Say if it were because of a bad piston ring. It would most likely erode away at your other piston rings, because gas is corrosive, and oil is a lubricant, if you think the ECU caused you to run hardcore rich. and you have that problem settled, an oil change may be a good idea.

+1 for changing the oil. gas washes away the oil on the cylinder wall causing more wear on the piston ring and the cylinder walls. stop driving the car until you get the problem fix.

I think if anything, I was running lean throughout the whole issue. When I got the car on the dyno on Saturday, the A/F was up around 14.7-14.9 and since I didn't know this prior to the dyno, I put around 800-1000 miles on the car. With my SAFC we got the car pretty much dead on around 11.9-12.1 now. And yes, I have changed the oil but I am still getting gas in my oil...

What extra damage can I cause by driving the car this way? I know it shouldn't be driven but I am at college and need to atleast get the car back to my house so I can mess with it in my garage. Thanks.

It wont hurt it say to your residence and back. but prolonged driving with gas mixed in your oil will cause wear on your piston rings, and eventually scoring of the cylinder walls, id say you probably have a bad piston ring, thats what my KA did when it had bad piston rings. best of luck to ya.

gas in oil will thin out the oil. Drops the viscosity(sp?) of the oil. So you could not be getting proper lubrication in the engine. Definately not a good idea to run the car hard. I would try to find the problem a.s.a.p. or try to not use the car if possible. good luck.

Check you injector orings and valve cover gaskets. That should solve the gas in the oil. You mostly have a bad oring on an injector and its just leaking like crazy. Do you smell fuel?

OK cool, thanks guys. I'm going to try to check the injector o-rings tomorrow and possibly get a compression test done also. Hopefully it's only an injector o-ring.

brunswick240 - How would the valve cover gasket cause gas to get in the oil?

Well I removed the fuel rail and turned the key to 'ON' to prime the system and nothing leaked. The fuel pressure gauge went to where it should be so I know I 'm getting fuel. Anyone else have any ideas??
