I've driven for quite a while on a below empty tank. I don't have an estimate of mileage for you but it was city driving, not highway. How many miles is your drive to work?

Hope you made out ok in the hurricane.

There's no easy way to know exactly how much is left because there are too many variables:
- how you drive
- condition of the car
- how level the ground is when you got your last reading

If I was in your situation, and it was showing ~53km left, I'd be fairly confident with going ~70km (~44 miles), and would probably feel risky pushing it for another 5-10 miles on top of that.

Keep your foot out of it, the 33 is an esitmate based on current MPG average. Try not to brake and keep the RPMs below 2grand if possible. It'll take some concentrating but you can ecodrive it. And the DTE does not include the reserve. You can typically get another 20miles out of the reserve. I've put 591miles on a single tank in a 12 2.5S. I know you have the 3.5 which is an petrolhalic in comparison.

HAHAHA! Bro I have the same problem, I actually have to use the CVT now... I'm driving my parents cars until some gas stations around me are open. It's ridiculous, people and their f*** generators emptied the gas stations out.

How about transit? Like trains or buses? I'll bet the subways are closed. Otherwise, why not bike it?

Then if you CANT bike (also depending on what your job is since you may not want to be biking in a suit....or even if you have a bike), can't your job understand that chances of transportation is slim to none?

find people to carpool with n take turns driving, that will help you. Had to drive into queens this week, was not fun and am aware of the gas shortage :(... lines a mile or longer n cops right there :/... otherwise, seriously baby the gas and take routes that dont make you stop, driving minimal as well. A lot of our gas comes from Jersey, they can't get up here so it may be a lil while longer...

Hey there, I posted a thread about this subject once. In my car I noticed that at 0 miles till empty I could put 17 gallons of fuel in the tank. The manual says we've got 20 gallons of room so I assumed there were always three more in reserve. I was averaging like 34 mpgs over the whole tank and decided I had another 90-100 miles after it read empty. I went ahead and drove another eighty eight miles or so and filled up. That time I pumped 20.001 gallons.

When a car starts to be on "empty" there is usually a reserve, 1-2gallons. it depends on how big the tank is, for us I would guess you would have a good 2gal of gas left or maybe 3. It's so that you can try n make sure you can get more gas before going dry  !! my car does it as well lol, a never-ending thirst till she dies  ...

Hey all, forgot to post back up on here.. anyway the same day using gas buddie i made it to NJ waited 15 mins and filled her up.. best part i only was able to put 18 gallons. So all the worrying and such I probably had 20-35 miles in it depending on the conditions. I so love pulling into a gas statioin with no lines now. what confuses me know is the fact that with the gas shortage I had no choice but to put regualr in when usually i used premium. I honestly do not see a difference between more miles per gallos or performance.. hmmm anyone disagree? If longer engine life id pay for the premium in a hearthbeat but now im doubtling that :bs:

Not using premium will hinder top end performance, it'll actually cause a loud pinging audible in the vehicle do to early detonation of the fuel. A common misconception is lower octane burns faster, when in fact it combusts at a lower pressure. You wont notice much difference because the ECM will automatically retard the timing to prevent spark knock and keep the engine from damaging itself. In reality you likely lost 20-30hp and 10% fuel economy
