1992 Q 229,000 miles

I've noticed when gauge 1/4 - 1/8 full fluxuates from total empty to the true level over a 5 - 15 minute period while driving. Started about 5 tankfuls ago, has done it 2-3 times. Any idea why? Beginning of real problem?

Thanks for any input.

Doug

How do you know what the "true level" is?

Knowledgeable G50 owners never run below ¼ tank to extend fuel pump life.

The float feeds a variable potentiometer, sort of like a volume control. So my guess would be a dirty or worn spot... maybe exasperated by the new ethanol fuel blends. I would just start filling up at a little over 1/4 tank to avoid being annoyed by it!

I know because the gauge returns to the previous level.

That's interesting about the 1/4 rule.

Thanks for the tip.

to slightly expound on that, the fuel pump is inside the tank as im sure you knew, and the gasoline in the tank is what keeps the pump cool. Running it that low makes it so gas isnt surrounding it as it should.
