gas gauge not working????

driving to work today and all the sudden i look at my gas gauge and its 1/4 tank gone and i went like 5miles wtf.... then i come to a stop and literallly watch the needle drop gradually in front of my eyes. and then it hit about 1/4tank left and the needle started picking itself back up????

what can cause this? bad gauge? no pressure? i know i have gas lol

the needle seems like its lazy like it wants to go up but cant it kinda hops a lil then gets enough momentum to go back up. but then drops again haha

any ideas guys?

turn your acc on first and test all of your fuel pump wires with a volt meter, if its all good, there is a float that is a part of the fuel pump assembly, The fuel pump and the float is sold separate. When you take out your fuel pump you will see what im talking about..but if i can find a picture of the whole assembly ill post it so you know what to look for hope this helps

so the float might be bad??? or sticking?

also could there be maybe a wire grounding out on the gauge itself? idk farfetched but possible?

a wire could be loose on the gauge but unless you have taken thte guages out or there is some bare metal that could be cutting into the harness is doubtful, If you dont know the history of the car you can taje out the cluster and look at the harness, see if its been hacked up, im going to go get my cd case, if you need it, on my webpage i have links to download pdf files with all the wiring diagrams

cool thankyou. yah it has a jdm cluster in it so it could be ghetto rigged haha never had a reason to pop it off.
