I know this sounds like a bad question to ask but I though I would throw it on the board anyways.

Of course we should never let our fuel tanks get low enough for the fuel pump to go in a high voltage load on itself and the FPCM but...

I will admit I have ran out of gas a few times in my day with my Q (Prior to the new fuel pump install). My question is how come my low fuel light does not show up on my information display area anymore it use to???

My fuel gauge does work fine

It's a guts problem. You've run out, and after being stung by trying to make just five more miles, you not longer have the guts to tempt your fate. Most likely the light's just sitting there, but you no longer run the car that close to empty. Best test is to grab the lawn mower can and head out with a low level and see if it'll come on. Chances are that it will. The lamp isn't one of the ones that self-tests on startup, because what fun would there be in that, hm?

Eventually after enough defective gasoline the resiatnces on the fuel sender and even the float switch in the low fuel warning system will change or get inaccurate.

After 310,000 miles and 16,000+ gallons [3 fuel pumps] even my gauge has started to get funky never shows full and half a tank is only 7 gallons consummed instead of 10 when brand new.................everything dies at some point.

The one thing that is still right on is the low level signal at 2.5 gallons remaining. Empty shows with 6 gallons remaining.
