Gas gauge

I work at a used car lot and we have a 03 Pathfinder that the gas gauge seems to not be working in. The gauge sits on 3/4 of a tank but the low fuel light comes on. Is that the sending unit or maybe something in the dash? How much is a sending unit for these? The guy here said that the Nissan store here wants $400 for it.

It sounds like you are saying that the gauge always reads 3/4 and the light is always on. Is that correct?

The expense of the sending unit probably includes replacement which would be pricey because it's probably in the gas tank which has to be removed to replace it. But then again, it's accessible inder the rear seat in mine.
