So I appear to have one problem that I didn't notice upon inspecting the car before purchase. After filling the tank with fuel, the gauge does not read properly. This makes me a bit paranoid that I might run out of gas. Any suggestions on what the problem might be? I have not run it far enough down to have the low fuel light turn on yet. The funny thing is that the first time I filled up, it read about 5/8 full. Now when I filled up, it only reads about 1/3 full. When filling the tank, it over flows a bit and spills out on the ground...is that normal? Thanks!

It sounds like someone may have had the fuel pump and sending unit out. The sending unit has a float that can be bent if not removed and replaced carefully. Do you have service records that can tell you if the fuel pump has been replaced.

I will look through the records and see if there is any mention of replacing the fuel pump. Thank you.
