back in june i installed a walboro 255 lph fuel pump in my s13. since then ive had the problem mentioned above happen to me only twice. once on my way to santa barbara (excellent gas mileage too) from SF, and then yesterday on my way to school. i installed it correctly and verified them with other SR guys as well as my teacher.

i had to replace the hoses to the fuel pump and tank since they ruptured at a track event, and those hoses are brand new and work fine. the float was fine as well, floating level, etc.

so my problem is sometimes when im driving, out of nowhere the gas needle will drop all the way to E and then back to the right amount very slowly. it scares the crap out of me and makes me wonder if i run out of gas, but the car never bucks or stalls out. the needle will stabilize and then afterwards, itll be fine again. this has only happened to me twice since ive had the pump installed, but it makes me curious as to whats causing it to drop so rapidly and then climb so slowly. suggestions?

Mine does that a lot lately but it will take a few days before it goes back to normal. I also have a walbro and few friends of mine say that there gauge stopped working after install.

I am going to check the fuel sending unit and floater when the weather warms. I would start there with yours also.

As long as your trip meter works you should be able to roughly tell how much gas you have left.

yeah i mean i checked the float and it doesnt stick or anything. gasoline is a solvent as well, so i mean sticky gas? thats not good.

do u know if the pump runs on a constant 5v or 12v signal? because im tihnking what could be the problem is a bad connection with the electronics. i also noticed, it happens when the car goes over really bumpy terrain. i checked the connection and its ULTRA tight as well. i wonder whats going on.

Check EL - 44 and 45 in the 91-94 service manual. That is where I am going to begin when I start working on my car.

Hope that helps.

i had a prob like the gas gauge with my water temp gauge, only it would go all the way up.

after a while i got pissed because my aftermarket gauge read fine, so i slapped the top of the dash above the gauge, and it went back to normal

i would suggest to check your dash wires, replace the gauge, or try to slap the dash and see if it changes when you do that.

Occaisionally my fuel gauge needle gets the attack of the stupid and will do weird things. It's happened maybe once or twice a year, usually in winter. When my fuel gets low, and gets close to E, it will actually drop 1/4 tank BELOW the E and sit there until I get more. I look at that and it scares me but once I watched it do it when i knew I had like 3 gallons left. I attributed it to the colder weather and thought nothing of it. It always corrects itself when I fill up. I'm guessing it would be electrical connections somewhere but who knows. Sometimes people can damage their float device that measures the fuel level when installing their walbro255.

yeah it just did that to me last night after i did my alignment at school. i remember arriving to school with a little below half. as soon as i left school the needle stabilized at a quarter tank with slight reading fluctuations. and i was flooring it all the way home (which is a 90 mile drive for me), but the needle stayed at that quarter when it should have dropped to E. does anybody know if the denso or tomei units do this too? i hear they arent so bad.
