Gas Fumes coming through heating vents....

With the recent cold spell we've had here in new england I experienced my 90 z32 giving off a strong fuel smell through the vents once the automatic climate control kicks in. The smell is similar to when the car starts up on a cold day smelling somewhat rich. Yet today was the first time it was really strong coming through the vents. Yet once you shut the heating system off the fumes dissipate. Any idea to where I might track it's source?

You most likely have an infamous fuel leak the Z's produce during the cold parts of the months. The most prominent spot for fuels leaks is around the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel dampner, check those spots first for fuel leaks.

Good call, checked it out this morning and the fuel dampner was leaking like a sieve. So I just had to tighten the two loose clamps on either side of the hose and the gas fumes have stopped. Thank you much for the advice.

Also check by the fuel filter....that's a hot spot for leaks as well.

Interesting that you mentioned the checking fuel filter this becuase, I just changed it over the weekend, which actually improved my throttle response and idle. I thought this was the cause of the recent smell of fumes. However I now believe it was the slight increase in fuel pressure that initiated the dampner to start leaking.
