Post

Hi all, this is my first post here in the 240sx section, but I am a resident of the 300zx forum. I have a rather odd problem and was hoping someone would point me in the correct direction. I have a 1991 240sx fastback and the little clip/lock assembly that makes the gas door stay closed has gone missing, I have checked a couple of sites such as courtesyparts.com and mynismo.com, as well as, searched here on the forum and found nothing. Does anyone know where I can find this little thing? Or is it the entire release cable that I'm looking for? Thanks in advance.

Why not just order one from the dealer? Or get one from the junkyard.

Good point, I just have no idea what part I'm actually looking for. Also, finding a 240sx in a junk yard here is almost as rare as finding a Ferrari in a junk yard here. If there happens to be one, it will be picked clean, I've looked. Hmmm... maybe I will go to the dealership tomorrow and explain this problem to the parts guy. Thanks though!

You are missing this part. 84430B and the thing that goes to. If you give a prt guy 843 & [A 01], he should be able to find it.

Thats probably the hottest gas tank shot ive ever seen. Isnt it common for 240's gas tanks not to stay closed? Mine dosent stay closed ocassionally and the cable to open dnt work either.

Thanks, man. I got bummed out when I found that Nismo gas cap is not replacing OEM gas cap. It's actually a cap that goes over the OEM cap. Funny...

funny? hahaha no...lol I saw that and had to put that pic there. I removed my gas door about 2 maybe 3 years ago b/c i was going to repaint it since a little spot of rust was sticking to the ice and I couldn't open the door to put gas in. I really need to get that done...

On my old S14 I put a small magnet on the inside to hold it closed, then popped it with my key when needed. Ghetto, but it worked.

Now I keep the magnet on the strut tower to hold screws/bolts while I tinker, which is awesome.

Hate to bring back an old thread, but I went to pop my gas door to fill up last night and realized it won't open. I think something broke where the handle meets the cable, since the handle is super close to the slider for my nagisa seat rail.

Is there a trick for opening the tank if the latch doesnt work? Maybe some sort of a manual release in the trunk area back by the tank? This is an embarrassing issue that I normally wouldn't post about, but I could use the advice. Thanks in advance.

Put a hammer in the back and hit one side of it no for real, trace down the cable and see if it broke or binded up.

I don't really have time to trace the cable right now. Obviously that is what I need to do, but I am looking for a quick solution to opening the door so that I can fill up. I am at work right now and I live 65 miles from work, so I need to fill up today before I head home or I won't make it.

I suspect the problem has something to do with the handle area like I said, but I wondered if there was a release somewhere in the trunk area on the back side of the door like Most cars have.

Yah I know how it is, do you have a cliton's book? I still need to get one it should have diagrams showing routing or if there is a "manual" release. I've never owned one that did. Mine doesn't open first pull of the handle I pull the handle and hold it or give it a three time pull. Try that it may work.

Uh, ya thats not right at all. 84430B is a nut...

The cable is # 84440M which changes interchanges to a 84650-41F10, Which is the cable and lock mechanism, and it is available.

If you need the spring, which is the little metal clip on the door itself.Part# 78836-41F10.

Mine is picky like that too, but not this time. I know the routing of the cable and all that jazz from when I had my interior out during the build, but I was hoping to just pop it open quick and easily on my way to the gas station after work today, not gut my interior on a side street tracing the cable and looking for a break after work on a friday.

I knew I should have stuck to "if you want something done (or in this case, solved), do it yourself."

He said that the part is missing, therefore, the door would not stay closed. You really shoudl read these threads better. U still have yet to contribute anything constructive at all in all of your posts.

O rite, rite, guess I assumed, o well... Well, his problem is easy to fix. Obviously the machanism broke, therefore buy a new cable, if you need to open the door in the meantime, then the only manual release you have is to cut the cable and pull it manually. If that doesnt work, which it should as long as you cut as close to the gas door as poss, then a small flathead will fit in the tight opening and pry against the machanism and open the door.

Now on the other hand, are you able to pull the release and pull the door open by hand, if so, then the mechanism is good, but the spring is shot.

my cable dont work either, just smack the opposite side it supposed to slide open, or stick a key inbetween and pop it open.
