Gas cap releiving pressure...problemo?

So i went to fill up for the first time since i got the car and popped the gas cap off and i heard a psshhhhew as it came off. Do i have a problem? It actually happened twice. once when i washed the car inn the morning and once in the afternoon when i filled up. This cant be good...

its normal, its just pressure that builds up

okay phewf. i was worried. I couldnt think of a reasonable thing that could cause that to happen though so i figured meh. Thanks for the reassurance though.

why do you take the gas cap off when you wash your car?

ha i dont know wanted to see if it worked? and maybe it had gunk around the edges or something i dunno. why do you floss your teeth? same reason.

haha i just got my s13 too and when my pumped gas it did the same and i went "oh snapssa" funny thing is i didnt know that the trunk lever was used for the gas tank also. :[ 240 virgin.

haha yeah it took me a bit to figure out which one goes whcih way. I know the diagram is incredibly easy to work out but i was sitin there pushin the thing directly forward then i finnaly went OMG pushing down!!! makes so much sense!!

Mine actually didn't make the sound when I first got it. The seal on top of the pump was bad. It had stretched some and there was also an odor of gas inside. After I changed the seal ,the" phiiish" surprised me the first time I filled up. I knew why it did it but it was still a surprise...

it only happen when your gas is low.......

Actually no. but my moms suv and my dads cross over never did it so do you blame me for asking. Sorry that i care about my first car and that anything that doesnt seem right to me I have to ask.

This Gas Cap pressure is a big problem for me, My gas tank just crack because of this, I still trying to fix this problem. Can anyone help.

i doubt this is the cause of it. every 240 I have seen does it,so how can it be a problem?are you sure your tank wasnt rusted or anything?I dont see any way of "fixing" it

you could always just vent the tank line that goes to the Carbon canister i belive. not 100% on it tho.

ive had 8 240's and every single one has done it.. even when their is more than a 1/4th of tank.. its just something they do
