I have a 2006 Altima and was wondering if anyone was having problems with the gas cap door? I don't know how it happened, but it no longer springs open when I pull the knob and it won't shut properly because of it being bent. It seems to be a poor design for the door to bend so easily. I took it back to the dealer and he said it's not covered under warranty. I can probably fix it, but I was wondering if this is a common problem.

Huh that's odd for it to break like that have an 05 and no problems even on my old 240s never had any problems I guess it was just a random thing not sure how hard it would be to fix

ive never had an issue with my 05. You might want to look into your fuse panel. Sometimes if you pop out the correct fuse and pop it back in, issues are easily corrected. Also, you might want to check the tension on the nuts/bolts with a socket wrench. It's real tight and a pain, but worth a try. It takes either a 12mm or 10mm socket.

Let me know how it turns out. I'll look at mine some time this week to see if there are any complications that I could see causing your problem. Good luck man.

Also, if anyone knows where I can purchase a carbon fiber gas door, PLEASE let me know. i've searched all over for them. I may have to resort to an overlay, but I really don't want to.

haha don't do it! Nothing says "ricer" like accentuating a gas door. It will just look like a big black mole on the side of the car. MOOOOOLEY!

I could have sworn that was a mechanical mechinism....so I don't think yankin a fuse would help. Just check tension and look for bends.

I have an 02 with the same problem. I've re-adjusted a few times already, but it eventually bends back and gets mis-aligned.

Also it does appear to be a common issue because once I started having issues with mine, I started to notice plenty of altimas with the gas door practically hanging off.

I have a 2003 Nissan Altima and love it however the door to my gas cap is broke. I have seen a few other Altimas on the road that appear to have the same problem. The door itself is not bent, I believe the hinge is warped. I was able to bend the hinge a few times to close it but that doesn't even work now. The bottom clicks however the top hits along the frame. Now I have to hit the door several times to close it. I am planning on taking it to a Nissan dealership to have them take a look at it, see if they will replace it and if it is covered or how much it will be to fix it.

You are right, I had one of those messed up fuel doors and I've seen many 02's, 03's and 04's Altimas on the road with the same problem. I have owned many cars but for this simple thing to go wrong just speaks poorly on Nissan. The 2003 Nissan Altima I use to own had so many problems ranging from the heater, the power windows, the engine light, the master cylinder and of couse the fuel door. I thought only American and Korean cars had so many problems but not a vehicle from one of the top 3 Japanese car makers. It was my first Nissan and it will be my last, never did a Honda or Toyota cause me so much grief. My word to anyone wanting to purchase something close to a Altima and don't want be visiting the repair shop every month buy a Camry or Accord it's money in the bank.

Anyone have a picture to better describe the problem? I have no idea what is bending on the fuel door. I have an '06 (which is the same body since '02 to the '08) and don't have an issue. I've never heard of this before.
