Does anyone know if any restrictor is needed for a T4 Garrett T04Z turbo with a -6AN line feeding it? I remembered ATPturbo.com telling me that it did not need one, but the orifice in the housing seems large compared to the .035" restrictors used on other turbos.

Here's a pic of the turbo when new:

The i.d. of the orifice in the pic above is about a -3 isn't it??

Holy hell, -6 feed?!?

I ran a -4 to my t3/t04e with no restrictor.

Darius- I like the new turbo!

-6 is quite large. I would defenetly run a restrictor on the turbo. I have been told that you should really run nothing larger then a -4 feed going into any turbo. I think the ideal size is a -3, so if you restrict it to -4 or -3 with a restrictor.

Thanks for the input guys. I have had the turbo for a couple years and ran across some info on the internet that made me second guess my oil feed line. I will look at my options a little closer tonight.

Correction: The oil feed line is a -4AN not a -6AN. Do I still need a restrictor?

-4 feed will need a .060" restrictor...or more commonly a 1/16" drill bit size if its a journal bearing tubo else you'll have some nasty over oiling with the -4 feed.-3 should be ok without a restrictor.

Does it change things if it is a BB turbo? Or should I add a 0.060" restrictor anyways?

Interestingly enough I noticed that after I swapped on my new PT6262 (which comes with a restrictor) my indicated oil pressures actually increased versus my old turbo which was fed by the same -4 line, but did not have any restrictor.

FWIW I probably would run the restrictor.

bb turbo requires an 0.032" or 1/32" hole if used with a -4 feed.

"I bought a T04Z from ATP a couple months ago and was curious to know if you recommend running the .035" restrictor on the oil feed line to the turbo?

Thanks,Matt"

Their response:

"Matt,

Never ever use a restrictor unless you have determine that the engine will put out too much oil for the turbo to take. Worse case if it leaks, you can always add a restrictor and problem goes away."

I think I'm going to throw the restrictor fitting on there to be safe. Thanks guys!
