I'm technically asking about this for my RB26, but everyone here, feel free to help me out cause I am having a hell of a time trying to figure out what turbo I want to run.

First off, I would really like to run a ball bearing turbo, but my machine work on my motor and everything is going to cost a little more than expected, so Journal Bearing turbo it is. I have looked at many options (TO4R, GT4088, T66, etc), but while they offer the power levels I am looking for, without the ball bearing option I am thinking they lag to much (unless someone can prove it different).

With that said, what does everyone think of the GT4082 turbo. http://www.turbobygarrett.com/...5.htm It comes with a standard 4" v-band exhaust flange, divided T4 turbine inlet, seems like it thrives at slightly higher pressure ratios than the GT4088, and should spool much faster. The only thing that scares me is that its output is rated at 575bhp (I'm looking for 500-550whp). Just seems low. But anyways...any help is appreciated as always.

what bout a proper gt35r?with a .86 ar turbine you should be able to crack 550whp no problem on modest boost.the t04r is a bit more than that turbo iirc.

Yea, I have read that post (actually have a few posts of my own in it)...it talks primarily about ball bearing turbos, which I originally spec'd out, but don't think I can go that route at this point.

Yes I had a TO4R on my .84 93 RX7 and that thing lagged a good bit and still ran out of steam at 7600rpm.

I have looked at the GT35R a lot, but I need a t4 turbo. They do make a T4 GT35R (alot of RX7 guys run it and call it the GT35/40). But I can't find info on weather or not it is a divided turbine housing or if it has differnt flow characteristics of the T3 based GT35R.

So you think 550whp is possible on 93 octane? My car will be running the stock cams, with a mildly ported and polished head and valve job. Stock rods w/ ARP bolts, CP Pistons, ARP headstud, metal headgasket, etc.

Yeah getting a cabible turbo to make that power is nothing. Its just do you have the fuel to feed the fire. A sizable GT35R will do you justice if all you are looking for is 500-550whp. Slap on some 800cc injectors and you can make that power at i guess 20-22psi easy on pump gas. I'd look into the 35R they are a great turbo.
