are there any kits or anything that would allow you to use this setup or is it a custom job?

I'm sure you could find someone selling their old T2 setup...but in my opinion, they are pretty expensive.

What power goals and usage would you be looking to achieve?

If you found a setup within your price range, then go for it!

I've seen GT2871r's going for around 1,000 bucks, and T3/T4oe 50 trims with exhaust a/r's of .48 to .63 for around 200 to 300 bucks. They can both get you into the 300 to 400 hp range, but one is easier on the wallet. The previous owner of my T3/T4oe 50 trim .48 compressor/ .63 exhaust saw over 350 at 15psi, and claimed to get full boost around 3,700 rpms.....not bad at all really.

T3/T4 is the better route, for uprgrading purposes, but when you look at getting a manifold and downpipe and an external wg, it comes out to the same price as getting a cheap bottom mount mani and gt2871. just some perspective.

You can get one of those inexpensive ebay T2 tubular turbo manifolds for the KA, reinforce the welds, and use an aftermarket SR dump and downpipe. Everything should bolt up pretty easily.

Just take a peek at my sig!

It's a T3/T4 that is actually larger than a gt2871r turbo on the bottom of a bottom mount t2 Ebay manifold. The only modifications: tig welded a t3 flange right on top of the t2, lol.

The wg dump off the manifold goes up though right? No creep?

No creep at all, tested at 15 psi too on a previous setup.

I got pretty much the same thing as boznuttz, only upside down. It works good.

cost of a gt2871r .86AR turbo setup:

turbo - $1000SSA manifold - $150SSA turbo elbow - $100

cost of a t3/t4 turbo setup:

turbo $400manifold (JGS) - $380downpipe (JGS) - $225external wastegate - $200

For 370whp setups, they're comparable in price. Anything more than 370whp then the t3/t4 is a better choice.

I originally was thinking about doing a similar setup with flipping the bottom mount T2 Ebay manifold upside down, but I had worries about the downpipe being too close to the BMC. Of course I could have probably welded a T3 flange at an angle to avoid that issue, lol. Oh well, it's more stealth the way it is.
