New to the site. Excited and a proud owner of a pre-owned 06 M35X. I love the car. I didn't look too hard for the nav system because I saw some bad reviews of the infiniti nav's. But driving a beauty like the M with aftermarket nav on the windshield (I would rather get lost)

In my search I stumbled on a Garmin GVN-53 which seemed like a great option. I read someone trying to install it on their 09 Murano so I was wondering if someone had tried on the M35 base model.

Just curious if they were able to use the screen and if they needed to get new controls (the one with navs). Since Garmin has a good name in the nav market, it might be a better option.

I have been hooked to this forum ever since I bought my car its awesome.

Thanks guys for your help.

Welcome to NICO!

Garmin is definitely an excellent supplier of GPS devices, so I hope that you are successful is making this happen. I cannot offer advice, since I have not done anything like it ... sorry!

I'm in the same boat with you. My 35X doesn't have nav and I REFUSE to put my Garmin in the windshield. So, temporarily, whenever I have to use it, I prop it up in the cup holder spot. I don't really need to see the map part while driving, I just need to hear the directions.

Hi. I havealso the same problem which the 2007 Infiniti M45 with no navigation option. I have bought Garmin nuvii 710 but i was fitting it in the bottom left side of the windsheild, but now i have fitted it over the cigar door which is next to the gear.

If you guys want to install factory navi, it is very easy to do. I bought an M with no navi and installed in for very cheap and took less then 2 hours to install. I didn't want to go with the portable navi option where it is visable. Check out this thread:

Thanks alot. I might consider trying this. I'm pretty good with stuff like this, so I'm not too worried about messing something up. I'm going to start looking for the parts online....if I can find them soon, then I'll do this on the first nice weekend after I get everything.

M45owner I saw your install that was great. The only problem is finding the parts on eBay.

By the way the Garmin GVN 53 isn't mounted on the windshield which is reason I am interested. Few folks have successfully installed it on their G35 and G37. They are using the factory non-nav screen to get directions. I am sure everyone is aware that garmin has the best name in nav. The only difference is you will use the remote control provided by garmin to enter destination instead of the controls on the car.

I don't want to put the link here as its against site policies but the gvn 53 looked like a clean install on the G's. Hopefully some expert does it on M or I might get professional help in the Boston area. Will keep you guys updated. Thanks.
