Republican gains in the upcoming elections will be short-lived if they don't listen to the people and spend like it's 2005 again.

How bout that scalpel we were promised. Seems history shows that the best economic scenario is a democrat president with a republican congress. Maybe we'll get the chance to test that again.

I could deal with that as long as the scalpel comes out and the cuts are wide....I can deal with Obama, I can't deal with Obama, Pelosi and Reid at the same time.

I'd feel better about the things indicated by that poll if it weren't for the kneejerk vagueries that embody Republican Party positions. What I mean is, it's a little bit unnerving that so many people could be so influenced by so much fluff.

And before you guys go pointing back to 2008, I'm not just talking about talking points, though those do come into consideration. The fact that not five minutes into the Obama Presidency were Republicans pledging not to work is pretty notable to me. It made sense when both parties were being dumped on by the American public, but, as far as I can tell, the Republicans haven't really changed anything about their behavior that should indicate that they'd be better at doing the job.

"Republicans" are mad at the GOP and expect the GOP to act fiscally for the first time in a while. I think the days of "OK, GOP is the main party in charge today so I don't need to pay attention to what's going on" are gone for a few cycles at least. So, hopefully the voters will vote in more appropriate GOP candidates than in the past.

As far as changed behavior or not, that is to be seen. We already know for a fact that the Dem leaders today have ignored the majority of promises made that helped get them elected. PayGo, honesty, "transparency", etc. so we already know they can't be trusted either.

Its interesting to see, such as in Alaska today, smaller challengers rising in the ranks.

I can't wait for the day when someone like Miller to come out of Alaska, with his same anti-earmarking ideals, runs for the executive, and we get to ask, "Can we have our money back, then?" I don't really care one way or the other about it, but the opportunity for a light-hearted zing is always something I long for.

I'm reminded of something that came up a few weeks after President Obama took office. Polls were showing that voter discontent was still on the rise, and one commenter summarized: "Angry people want to vote in change, and when they don't get all that they want, they vote for more change."

And just last week, in response to a discussion about Rick Scott's nomination for the Florida gubernatorial race and the topic of his past medicare fraud troubles, a caller from Florida said on Talk of the Nation, "We're looking real hard at the bums we're throwing out, but are we paying much attention to the bums we're voting in?"

Lots o' kneejerk going around these days.
