Well, considering 80HP is more than half of my car's total HP, and he GAINED that much with a day on the dyno, to me that's impressive.

I could only imagine how much quicker my car would be with 80 more HP. It would be well, about as quick as his car stock! qltm.

It is a 4 psi increase, had we bumped the boost up to 23.5 psi, the intercooler would have been too small, the turbo could over spool, there would be wastegate issues, the BPV would not vent quickly enough...

A lot of the power came from giving it a richer mixture of fuel, adjusting the timing, changing the "open/closed loop", and a lot of other stuff I don't understand.

Yea, 17psi, isn't a 10lb increase. Regardless, a 65+WHP gain is nothing to scoff at. Congrats Beans. So when is the car paid of so we can see some REAL mods on that thing? LOL!

Or under rated HP numbers from the factory.

I am fortunate enough to have the VF52, so the turbo is large enough to give me the CFM I need. It's basically a VF39 with a LGT housing. I believe you are running the VF39, so you should be fine as far as airflow. I would love to see you get up near the 300/300 mark. It's like a totally different car, that is for sure.

Since you're in Napa CA, it's a 9 hour drive each way, but if you buy the Accessport through Cobb Surgeline, Tim will protune the car for free.

Order the AP before 12-31-09 and he'll let you schedule the tune prettymuch whenever.

If you figure the protune usually runs between $350 and $500, you're getting paid between $20 and $27 an hour to drive and have your car tuned, minus the cost of gas and a motel. At the worst, it would be a wash.

None the less, it's not a bad deal. Plus you'll get to use whatever parts you want, (not restricted to stock airbox, etc.) and get the extra 20-30 HP/TQ from the protune that you won't get from an OTS map.

Or you could do the AP trade in program: http://www.cobbtuning.com/info/?id=3846

yeah, if I can sell the ap for 200 Im going to trade it in, I only paid 140 for it so, Im not even close to losing money. But for the tune I think Im going to go with GST http://www.gstmotorsports.com/home/. I fallowed these guys around for a weekend at a Redline Time Attack. bunch a great guys and awesome tuners.

I've driven a few 300-350 whp GTR's, but never a WRX. If my pocket book allowed I'd love to own one. AWD + Boost = Win in my book.

The real question is...

Can I make more power with less boost with my 1995 240SX? Stock block, 127,098 miles KA24DE and nothing more then a FMU to handle fuel management. No secrets, no tricks...just a diy log manifold and a old turbo I have laying in the garage. I'll probably have to jerry rig a water injection kit so I don't knock like crazy, but I'll just be using crap I have lying around, like the stock fuel pump I just pulled out...lol.

I'd be willing to actually bet something...a gift card for a case of beer that the winner chooses, or a $40 bottle of whatever fruity chick drink you're currently sipping...sound good?

My Ultra cheap diy project vs your "god tuned" damn near new WRX and I'll never even make it to 17 psi...lol.

It sounds like a bet, but my question is... Water injection... How much water? The amount of water you're spraying could let you turn up the boost to retarded levels.

What gas will you be using? Will you be using race gas, or are we going for even and you'll use 92 octane also. No E85 either!

No additives to the fuel? If you start adding crap to the fuel that wouldn't be fair.

Dyno... Has to be a Mustang Dyno with the vehicle weights and load cells set correctly. I won't take a bet where you are using a dynojet or dynapacks, since they just don't have the "real world" numbers that you would get from a Mustang Dyno.

I'll have to hit you up on the phone so we can work out the details...

I don't trust you when you say "No tricks"...

The water injection is just so I can run more then 8 psi without detonating. Not so I can run tons of boost. I'm going to be limited to 10 maybe 12 psi max because of the FMU. Anything more then that will result in a dangerous amount of fuel pressure. So I'll be running quite a few psi less then you are. But if you're scared, I understand

No fuel additives, no race gas, no E85. Just whatever is available at the pump on base here. I think it's 92 but it could be 93...regardless I'll just be using pump gas. Still scared

I'll do my absolute best to use a Mustang dyno, but I can't promise since I don't really know what's available here and I may have to drive 2 hrs down to Dallas just to find a damn dyno at all. My dyno will be backed up by 1/8th and 1/4 mile times though. Which btw will be done on BFG radials...just radials, not drag radials...lol. I can't think of any way to give you more advantages then that, let me know if you can think of any

The turbo is a TO4E with a .81 AR hotside and a 60 AR compressor, IIRC it's a 57 trim compressor wheel. The turbo will support 550whp pretty easily, but I won't even be in the efficiency island since I'm running such a small amount of boost. But that doesn't bother me to much and I can't afford a new turbo. Between now and when the project is completed, I'll be looking for a smaller used turbo, like a Holset. But anything I get will be smaller and make less power, so it shouldn't be a concern.

It's only a case of beer so...it'll be a fun little contest

Well, I guess it's on then.

You do have an advantage... My build/tune is done. You know what you need to beat. It's not like any HP will be added anytime soon.

Scared of what? Your #3 rod thrower?

It sould be interesting to see, figuring as it's a flat 4 vs an inline 4, with way different parameters.

So will you be using a stock head? Porting it?

So will the final bet be Higher HP numbers on a dyno, or fastest time down the 1320?
