I've got a 95 sentra with the a ga16. The motor is pretty much shot so I'm replacing it. I got a ga16 from Venus. Its a silver top and has the bump for the vvl, but when I opened the valve cover no vvl and there is a plug instead of a vvl solenoid. Can I swap my vvl parts to the new motor? Has any one done this before? Was vvl an option on the earlier motors? This is my dailey driver so I just want it to go me from a to b without putting me to sleep. And If your're wondering why I did'nt go sr its because my other car is a 96 240sx with a rb20.

thanks

Interesting.

I'd think that you could swap the parts over. First, however, I'd ask Venus wtf is going on with having a VVL VC but no VVL.

Ok, I took both motors apart and this is what I have found. Its not VVL(adjust cam timing and vavle lift on intake and exhaust), but VCT(adjust cam timing on intake only). The VCT sprocket would bolt in place, but you have to use the intake cam because the bolt is about four inches longer. The VTC acuator will then just screw into place. All that being said, I don't know why anyone would bother. You would have to swap a newer intake, wiring, and ecu to run it on the older ga16s and then you couldn't do the sr throttle body swap. Too much work, too little gain. None of that really matter to me now anyway since the motor Venus sent me is seized up. Im getting a refund. I just have to tear it down and take pictures.
