My '96 GA had the same thing go wrong five years ago. It only had like 65-k on it too. I simply replaced the worn idler gear and upper chain with good used ones from a parts engine. So other than a tube of gasket maker, the repair was free. It's still running great today.
The GA is an interference engine however. Verify that the cam timing has not jumped and do a compression test. If it has jumped, you've got a lot more work to do to find out if the valves hit the pistons. Namely, pull the cams out [which will close all the valves] and then do a cylinder leakdown test.
