A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

I have a 97 sentra with a 1.6L that I'm seriously considering turbo charging, however because I live in New York I need the car to remain emissions legal for state inspections. The only thing holding me back from getting a turbo specialties kit at this point is wondering if the stock catalytic converter will work with the turbo manifold or if not what needs to be done to have a cat and keep the check engine light off? I am leaning towards turbocharging the 1.6L rather than doing an SR20 swap but something else I have been wondering about is if you do the swap, since it's a 1997 and needs to be linked through OBD2 to the inspection computers, would it be an issue to have an ecu from a different motor in the car for inspections?

I'm not very well versed in the whole turbo game, but I'd be worried about back pressure in the stock cat. Maybe a highflow cat would be a better solution for you?

Does it have a cat in the manifold? If so, you'll lose that. All you really need is sufficient catalizing activity in front of your rear O2 sensor, so like James mentioned, you can add another cat if you have to.
