You can go ahead and legally smog exempt your vehicle at anytime, before or after an SR20 swap. Smog exemption exempts your vehicle from smogging altogether.... for those of you with SR20 swaps, you can legally smog exempt your car once and forget about smog forever, or go look for the homie Pepe to smog your car every 2 years like a dope fiend and pay alot more $$$ for a crooked smog......Mr. MoNkEyS wrote:yea i was wondering about that, so what exactaly happens? can u get smog exempt before the swap and then swap it in, or do u make it exmpet with the swapped engine?

What if the emissions part didnt matter, could i just use the JDM ECU that came with the motor without changing any of the sensors or other things?nametakennow wrote:JDM ECUs won't pass American emissions tests. Your best bet is a JWT-tuned USDM SR20 ECU.
If they looked under the hood, and the cop have some basic knowledge, is their any noticble differnece between the usdm sr20de and the jdm sr20det besides the vavle cover color? Like could the cop tell its a jdm motor just by glancing at it?nametakennow wrote:You can easily claim that it's a USDM SR that you turbo'd. There's no way they could tell without looking on the block itself for some sort of ID.
