Did some searchin to see what this little atf leak was (5K miles after flush, 2 filter changes).

According to previous posts, its the ts. What I wanted to know definitively was did a leaky ts constitute a bad ts; or can it still function and simply have a bad seal.

I have kept up with regular flush/fill maint since 51K (now at 94K) at least annually some times twice a year.

If you're not getting a code, it's working, just leaking.

To replace the turbine sensor, the transmission needs to be dropped enough to get at it ... or ... you can try boring a hole in your driveshaft tunnel, heheh, it's been done.

I dont think you have to unbolt the trans from the motor, just unhook the mount and maybe the driveshaft and just lower it down.

Actually, I think you do have to unbolt it which is why Q45tech always recommends replacing the rear seal at the same time.

Did some reading in past threads on the subject. At T3, they uncouple and drop the transmission to replace the speed sensor - and then replace the seal at the same time. Q45tech mentioned that Byron is the only one that doesn't always do it that way, but wasn't specific.

Here are a couple good threads on the subject:

Transmission leak

95 Q Transmission fluid leak

I think I'm having the same problem as well. My pan was greasy on the outside.

Is this a DIY type of job or more a shop type of activity?

it all depends how comfortable you feel about lowering the transmission.

First clean the pan off so you can tell if it's still leaking somewhere. Your gasket got replaced in the drop, yes? May have been that - I have a leak in my gasket right now - gonna need a drop soon anyway.

Not comfortable with that at all Wes.

The boring a hole in the floor bit is interesting though.

The turbine sensor leak time often correlates with the rear main engine seal leak time..............pretty foolish to cut a hole in floor pan and reweld a cover back on and then have to pull the transmission anyway for a serious engine oil leak.

Pulling transmission lets you replace exhaust hangers, exercise the drive shaft u-joint to remove notchiness, replace transmission trail shaft seal, rear main and turbine sensor, clean pan, change filter all in one easily <1 day process.

With transmission out lots of difficult rear engine hoses become easier to change.

All about get most bang for buck in 10 year increments to reduce the $30,000 you would spend in that period.

Would stuff like this be covered in a Powertrain Warranty?

It seems like this transmission issue is going to cost me an arm and leg. Probably a fair bit a spinal fluid as well.

Couple that with the fact that I don't know who to trust with the car other than the dealer (Which sometimes isn't a good idea in itself) or a BG shop. The BG shop that comes up on BGfindashop.com says that it does transmissions as well. When I called them for a quote on my injector, they were a little pricey, which I found odd for a Sunoco Gas Station, you know?

And he is a very good Senior Infniti Technician. You will be glad you went, trust us.

Sorry I don't have his information on this computer.

Have the parts mentioned by Q45tech from Joe when you go.

So. If I run the transmission diagnostic described here :http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=217453

I'll get the codes for my Q? Whatever comes up in the display, I check the FSM for and then I'll be able to know what to do to get it fixed? I hate the guessing game.

When I first put the First Gear Start in, it took off like a beast. Now either I've gotten used to it, or there's something amiss. It just isn't as snappy. I took off from a red light this morning and much to my chagrin, there was an elderly lady in a Volvo keeping up. I finally lost here when i took it to 65, but gee, that was disconcerting.

The car shifts smoothly from 2-3. But 1-2, I feel a little "kick" and then it goes.

Yesterday, some guy wanted to race me at a light. I dusted him, but I almost freaked when I saw my tach go past 5K RPMS. I've never done that before off the line. Never happened with the 92 TCU. Is that normal or did I do something out of the ordinary?

If you have it floored, you should bounce off of redline shifting into 2. Transmission codes won't tell you mechanical problems, only electrical (like solenoids and sensors).

I didn't have it floored. That's the thing. I've been seeing my RPM's go higher than they used to back when i had the second gear start at intervals like 40mph.

I'll give him a call first and see if I can set up a time to go over there.
