I tried searching but to no avail. I was hoping somebody has some insight. My 1991 President has only 1st and 2nd gear, seems to shift fine but will not upshift out of 2nd no matter how fast I drive. I just finished repairing some accident damage to the under carriage but there is no apparent damage the transmission or wiring to it. I have never driven the car before today so I don't know if this is a new problem or pre-existing when the car was damaged. Any ideas will much welcomed. Thanks.

I would check your AT codes, that is outlined in the FSM

usually whenever it goes into failsafe mode, the car locks itself into a gear, usually 2nd or 3rd depending on the issue, but going from 1-2 fine is a little strange.

hit up this user, i know he had a similar issue. tell him Wes sent you

I can not find a FSM for a JDM spec President any other suggestions. I do have a spare transmission that can be installed when I do the timing guide update, but I would rather not as the one in the car only shows 60,000 miles.
