Sorry about this question but I recently had a flat tire on the highway on the way to work and when I put the spare on it went flat in about ten feet. It looks like the tire is probably rotted given the age, sixteen years, so when I asked my tire guy about buying a new spare he said I probably could not afford it ($150+). Is there some source that I could use that would offer the spare tire at a reasonable price. My local junk yard now has five 1990-91 Q45's all with about 200K and I don't think taking one from one of those cars is very practical. This is actually the only trouble I have had with the car in several months so it is rather minor but being stuck on the side of the road while trucks pass you at 75 MPH is not much fun.

Not a bad question at all! I couldn't find the tire at http://www.tirerack.com - but I googled T135/90D16 (the size of the spare) and found that a lot of newer Nissans use the same tire size on their spares... Like the Frontier and Altima. You might be able to get one dirt cheap at a salvage yard off of a newer Nissan, and then have it put on the Q's spare tire wheel if the lug pattern is different.

Good suggestion. I will check my local junk yards for more current Nissan's. Thanks.

Don't give up another older spare, they do lose air pressure but are in a protected environment and last quite a while. I had a bias ply tire that had to be 35 years old in my 1955 Chevy that worked as a spare. What probably happened was it was close to flat and lost its bead as you drove.

However, a newer spare tire is a better and cleverer solution.

I agree with Andy, i bet it just lost its air. Why you check your spare inflation every year...

For me, I dont carry a spare because I have AAA.

I've noticed a full size fits down in that hole and only sticks up a little bit. If you don't mind the hump in your trunk floor just pick up a steel wheel that fits. OR...if you're creative design something to lift the rest of the floor up so that the FSS fits and doesn't look crazy. If you do that, then we all might car a FSS

I just use one of my Y33 wheels as my spare. It does only add a little hump to the floor, and the carpet seemed to be moulded to allow for the extra height.

Around my way, AAA or no, if a cop pulls over while you have a flat and you're not in possession of a spare, it's an automatic ticket.

Wow... that's amazing!

Of course your State Police have uniforms that make them look like they're on their way to pull Anne Frank out from under a bed. Not that we're any better here.... one of the last tickets I got was from a big 'ole bubba looking guy with mirrored wrap around shades with flourescent orange frames. I still wonder if the mirrors were actually on the inside...

Hahaha. Our state troopers do bear a resemblance to the SS.

What'd you get ticketed for?

Just your run of the mill 70 in a 55 speeding ticket back in college in a POS Honda Civic Wag-o-van. I've been lucky for a while...

Well what is odd about this is it's actually the second time it has happened. The first being in my driveway so it didn't really cause a problem except I had to borrow my wife's car. The first time was in 1999 and the tire shop said the same thing "it must be low on air". To this day I have never been able to drive the car on the spare. The tire shop filled it again with air and said it appeared to be fine. I guess I need to drive it again on the spare to see if it really does work.
