Hi. 91Q. 150,000km, timing chain has been fixed. Live in Canada and it has been pretty cold. I park undergound which is heated to stay above freezing but not by much.

When the car has sat so the engine is cold, when I start it up it revs to 2k and then hovers at 1.75K for a good 4 minutes. If starting when the car has been warmed up it is not an issue and will sit at 600-700rpm.

Im all about letting the car warm up, but that seems a little excessive, especially since the car is stored in a place where it is always warmer than freezing. Any ideas, the car runs like a top otherwise. Thanks

Adam

That's pretty cold, so maybe it is OK. Usually doesn't idle initially much above 1200 -1500 rpm range, but my experience is generally north of 32° F..

Usually, if there are no vacuum leaks, excessively high idle can be traced to maladjustment of the IAC valve to compensate for a un-pristine throttle body, intake plenum and IAC valve.

When below 32F 2,000 rpms [in park/neutral] is not unusal!

Automatic idle up to warm to 174F before driving away.............function of coolant temperature [mechanical opening of throttle].

I have been letting it warm up. Will keep doing so. Thanks for the pointers.
