What is the procedure for removing a stuck key in a 1991 Q45 sans battery?
Here is what we tried today:- Pull off black plastic covering around ignition key opening- Locate the red tipped 3mm tall override switch - Leave transmission in park (you have no other choice without a battery)- Press brake pedal (I wonder if this matters without a battery)- Press black plastic key release button (I wonder if this matters at this pt)- Slide red tipped 3mm tall metal override switch to the front of the car???- Wiggle the hell out of the ignition key (what position should it be in)
But it still won't budge.
I suspect we are not using the exact procedure necessary when there is no battery.
WHAT POSITION SHOULD THE KEY BE IN WHEN WE TRY TO REMOVE IT?DO WE PRESS OR SLIDE THE RED TIPPED LEVER?DO WE SIMULTANEOUSLY PRESS THE BLACK PLASTIC KNOB?
Should we slide or press the red tipped override switch?I suspect we slide it FORWARD but I'm just not sure.
We have the shop manual that came with the Q45 but I searched section ST which has really really tiny type and still can't find the procedure to remove a stuck ignition key when there is no battery in the Q45.
Do we have to SLIDE the red tipped button, press the black plastic button, press the brake, and turn the key to a certain setting, all at the same time, to remove?
Please help as I'm only over my friend's house tonight! It's not coming out so we must be doing SOMETHING wrong!
(I'm trying to post a picture but I'm not enabled for picture posting it appears.)
