Hey guys I was wondering if anyone know what is required to do a president conversion on a g50. Would this be a bolt on affair or would i need radiator support and other stuff also.

reason I am asking is that I might be able to pick up a g50 q45 thats been sitting in my friends backyard. I am really not a fan of the no-grill front end...

First, rasrx7 or onetongarage may be able to weigh in with some first hand or close to first hand knowledge, but it's being done in JDM-land, so my guess is it's doable, but may be more than just "bolt on".

Second, if it's grille-less, that meaasn it's a 90-93 and you need to make sure the chain guides have been adressed before ever tryting to start the motor. This isn't like the KA's chain guide issue, this issue if unresolved can be terminal by simply starting the motor. A DIY chain guide repair will be >$700 in parts alone if you have the right tools and skill (here's a slightly used set for sale).

Third, a Q45 (G50) maybe be cheap to acquire, but is an expensive car to maintain/repair. Since the last numbers I heard were in the $4-5k range for a Pres front end shipped to the US. And given that nearly any "on the road" G50 is in need of thousands of dollars of defered maintenance and repairs if you want it to last more than the next 12 months, you may be looking at a very expensive project.

There's lots of info on the chain guides and other possible problem areas of a neglected Q, just search and see what you find.

In short, even a free Q, can cost you lots of money.

What does the conversion unit look like? Are there any photos posted?

Well here's an actualy Nissan President, they both share the "G50" chassis.

Thanks for the heads up... I have actually been lurking in this forum for a few months now, ever since I found out my friends parents were looking to rid themselves of the Q. So I already have plans on doing a stock rebuild of the motor... bearings, rings, oil pump, timing chain and guides, water pump, thermostat, seals, gaskets etc... I also work at a nissan shop so sr injectors are plentiful. Dealer pricing on all parts and hooksup at our engine builder help too

i will have to talk to some of the importers we buy from to see what he can import for me. I wonder what presidents go for in japan still?

Most people believe that the G50 engine cannot rebuilt to factory specs. You would probably be better off with a JDM import. However if you are doing it for the experience, by all means do and post pictures along the way.

silver2k2 is right, rebuilding a VH45 is a very big undertaking. You'd probably be better off finding a JDM or USDM take out, re-furb the externals (& guides) and install that versus rebuilding. If you have to repace any internal parts, it starts adding up quickly (think everything times 8 or more).

You can check for some used Presidents by searching yahoo auction of Japan.

This is a Q45 with the President front. Notice the steering wheel location.

It's definitely not a reversed negative, not with compact clearly marked on the parking space (unless it's a reversed negative and photochop).

But judging by the length of the rear doors, I'd have to say that it's a President with a LHD conversion.
