I haven't been able to find any threads relating to my exact problem, so here I go.

I recently did some cleaning on my car IAC EGR MAF and two tanks of BG44K.

I noticed about a week ago my car was burning twice as much fuel and would blow out smoke at hard acceleration.

My car has never smoked before (87K) and still has the other problems I.E. power loss, lack of acceleration etc. Any input on this?

Just out of curiosity, have you replaced your valve cover seals?

Replace any injectors?

You didn't clean the TB, right? Nor the intake manifold?

Yes, the TB and intake were thouroughly cleaned, I have not replaced any injectors. The valve cover seals were done under warranty back in '02. It's a '94 Q.

Have you ohmed your injectors? If not, follow the directions in this link and let us know the readings. Good luck.

Just to follow up. My #1 injector was out of range so I replaced it. In the last 4 weeks or so I have done the routine cleaning, MAF, TB, EGR, IAC

- Upper Links- Tension Rods- Stabilizer links- LH O2 Sensor (ECU threw code)- 2 cans BG44K- New fuel filter

I finished up the O2 sensor and #1 injector today and took a short ride so I don't know how the gas mileage is yet I did notice that some of the smoke had declined.

Another thing I noticed a few nights ago was that when I accelerated hard or used the passing gear, when I would let off and coast the CEL would come on for about 5 seconds and go off. It even did it tonight after I finished working on it. I plan to pull the codes again tomorrow, but was wondering if there were any light bulbs going off out there.

I'm still trying to resolve the initial power loss issue.

This morning my wife called to tell me the car had backfired to the point my daughter took off her seatbelt and proceeded to jump from a moving vehicle. She said it started sputtering a bit and a couple miles later killed. She then pedal/braked it ao the kids school where I picked it up.

I have yet to make it do any of this. I have spent the better part of my day searching and reading posts to no avail. One thing I forgot to mention earlier is that the pintle cap was missing on my #1 inj. but the O-ring was still in place. Is it possible that others are missing and are throwing the fuel system out of wack? I ask because I know this is one of the areas Consult cannot see.

If I only knew what to fix it wouldn't be frustrating; I enjoy the how to, that's how I relieve stress now that my GIXXER is down.

I had a similiar problem with smoke on hard acceleration and CEL. Ended up being #2 injector. It ohmed fine but, a broken pintle cap was disrupting the fuel spray, causing a CEL. You probably will have to remove the injector rails to visually check all injectors for any other broken/missing pintle caps.

Thanks, looks like it,s time for the inevitable plenum job. I'm actually looking forward to it if nothing else but to see for myself what the condition of my engine is.
