Besides IPT who sells Billet Torque Converters??

I understand that the IPT Modified Selenoid Assembly makes the transmission shift firmer, but what does the upgraded valve body do??

I did a search and read this about torque convertersNow, the key thing to remember is that this will improve you acceleration but for every day driving, it generally makes your driving experience a real drag…. Almost literally because most cars have stall speeds in the 2000rpm range and driving a car where the engine is revving and revving and you aren’t really going anywhere until almost 4000 rpm gets a little old turn after turn light after light. Usually staying with the stock setting or a compromise between stock and the ideal performance-stall speed is in order if the car is going to be your daily driver.

Can somebody explain that further. I want a firmer shifting transmission, but not kneck snapping. Something i can take to the track but yet still cruise around with.

IPT and Level 10 both get their billet torque converters from Dragon, http://www.converter.com ... Look for posts by jamesmost, hes got one in his Q, hed tell you how he likes it.

I have a high stall in my car, and i love it.. I think its about a 2800-3000 stall, james is a little higher than mine if memory serves... It makes driving the car a lot easier, at low RPMs its much nicer... I think a 3000-3200 would be about ideal, still very stockish with more power..

Let me put it to you this way, both my parents and grandparents have driven my car and have never noticed anything about it.... At least about the transmission, the suspension is another story

Generally you do the valve body upgrade to get the firmer shifts, and replace the solenoids while your in there.

I found this while searching on google...http://www.automatictransmissi...19197

What do you think?Good idea?(I ask because it's local to me, so would be cheaper for me to get hold of.)

I have emailed the site's pro on transmissions, to see if it will fit the Q45, and expect an answer in a week or two...

oz man-good find. the pictures are of our valve body. you can check your firewall plate- the USDM G50s have the re4r03a trans--not sure about jdm.only reason i even question this is that the webpage lists the 'nissan infiniti' under the re4r01a.i did a home brew valve body upgrade on mine, including solenoids for about $225 US, and a lot of labor. that included a new separator plate which i modified to increase pressure on the high clutch and intermediate band release (essentially to perkup the 2--3 shift). i know some on the board will cry heresy--but i went in with eyes open on a specific mission to make my 2--3 sharp until the trans dies completely.point being--decide in advance what you are aiming for. no valve body upgrade will replace burned clutches. you can also do cheaper shift firming tricks (on all shifts) by replacing/adjusting the line pressure solenoid and not tweaking the valve body metering at all.

Definitely have the RE4R03A trans...I guess I will have to get my torque converter upgraded too. Will I need a totally new torque converter, or can the trans shop build the standard one up to a higher spec?

depends if you want rebuilt or billet. I generally say, youll spend $500 or so on a rebuilt TC, and I think the extra money is worth it for the billet.

Not necessarily, especially if they don't have the G50 specific cards for the Consutl I.

But better than Jimmy Joe down at the corner gas station.

my implications were that if theyre skilled in rebuilding Z AT's, they can do the Q AT (since theyre both RE4R0xA)

I have that covered too!

My friend, the nissan mechanic who you heard on one of my old Q videos (He owns an R32 skyline), has access to the consult and the card to check the G50, including the active suspension module!(The nissan dealer he works at is 5 mins in the opposite direction of the Z shop!)

Is there any difference in the quality of work between IPT and Level 10. IPT wants approx $1450 while level 10 wants $1800 to upgrade torque converter and valve body. Both said they would keep car 2 to 3 days.

IPT from what I hear does superior work....

However, you dont need to get a billet converter from them... you can get the billets from http://www.converter.com... dragon TC's.

How difficult a job is it to drop the transmission on the q45. Thinking of droppiing the transmission and getting a dragon converter then taking the transmission and having the valve body redone. Then reinstalling the transmission myself.

its not terrible as far as transmission removals go... It will be fun to fight the exhaust down and the top bolts are fun to get out too....
