1. For my 1991 Q45a, what oxygen sensors would be best? NTK, Bosch, AC DELCO, Walker .....or oem only?

2. What is the difference between the oem style and universal style?

3. I think I read something about tech using a switching o2 sensor or something??? What is that? I can't find the thread where I read that.

lino, the OEM factory sensors on my 94a were BOSCH.I'm changing out with NTK from sparkplugs.com.the NTK are a harnessed direct fit (no cutting splicing). note that the right and left have different length harnesses.

i thnk you mean a wideband O2? but i don't know what Dennis is running.

Japanese Bosch not US or EU Bosch, they are very different companies.

A Japanese company bought the name and some use of patents.

I bought and paid for oem [Japanese Bosch].

Have used an NTK for 20K with no discernibly bad results.

If you use http://www.sparkplugs.com call for part number as webpage was wrong.

I am installing Japanese Bosch on my G50 that I am dong now.

www,infinitipartsusa.com aka Joe.

Anyone thinking of using a third party source should read Q45tech and Joe Tesensky's posts about sourcing first! Caveat emptor!

The warm up time in seconds/minutes and the cool down time when you come out of closed loop is the factor............why we call them sluggish.

The graph shape [symmetry] and switches [fine adjustments] per minute.

If you get 22 now you might improve to 22.5 or 23 mpg with fresh units. surely your dyno emissions will improve with faster switching.

The cruise/idle software is good and lean without the O2.

sometimes,I do get 22.5 mpg ,my point is that the mpg has not deteriorated since when the car was new,and early replacment is a waste of money............... rather spend it on frequent replacment of premium fluids all around

So has anyone bought the Japanese Bosch oxygen sensors? From where and how much? How can one identify Bosch Japan products from Bosch North American products?

I went to Bosch Japan's website and found these:Universal type Plug in

I spent a week or so researching this back in '03 and ended up pulling my hair out and just buying them from Joe out of furstration. Aftermarket parts are so iffy on what you're actually getting.

Joe has them listed on the website for $153.53 each. I never called to confirm the current price, since I know that the prices on the website are not updated and some things cost more now.

Btw I found the NTK sensors for $20.

Lino- I just had this set delivered from SparkPlugs.com and will be getting them installed next week. These are for my 94Q and I used the same NTK sensors on my 90Q last year. Same sensor and plug on both but #24615 ($69) has a longer lead than #24521 ($53).

If you can get them for $20/ea go for it, that sounds like a great price. Or you can spend $153/ea from Joe. I opted for SparkPlugs.com. Good Luck.

Thanks for the pics Mike! Talk about "Q"uality. Those look great and at a savings of $184 over oem pricing, I'd say you did good. I'm waiting to hear back from the person who has the sensors to get part numbers. I want to make sure he has the right ones. I'll post when I get a response.

Those NTKs do look nice. I actually used a replacement from http://www.sparkplugs.com on my truck and was very satisfied with them. The part in that case was a Denso, but I think it used a different design...

Anyhow, sparkplugs.com is a good vendor.
