Is it sort of a "crunch" that you feel in the brake pedal? If so, this is the ABS self, test and is completely normal... I once had a house on a hill with a fairly steep driveway and found that the self-test is much more noticeable. Colder ambient temperatures also make it more obvious...
Another thing... setting the parking brake firmly with your foot still on the brake pedal after shifting into "P" will make the transmission much easier to shift into "R" the next time you drive it...
As Brian said, a P/S flush is a great idea. I like to use a turkey baster to replace the fluid in the resivoir at every oil change. If yours has been neglected for a while, I would do a full flush first, and then maintain the fluid with the turkey baster method...
