94' G50: Does anyone have a good source for having an ignition key cut. I purchased a blank. What info. is required? While we are at it, does anyone have a good generic or aftermarket source for a keyless transmitter? How do you get these programmed?

I've had a couple of blanks cut as backups by local locksmiths. The first one was recommended by the local dealership and the second just walking in to a local locksmith. The locksmith only needs your original key and the blank but needs to have a laser cutter as it can't be cut on the normal grinder. Cost will be $40-$50. I don't think you'll have a problem finding the right locksmith in a town the size of Phoenix.

Experts on this forum say that the soft metal in the aftermarket blanks will wear off over time and gum up your ignition cylinder. Try and use the original key as much as possible.

Keys require laser cutting, but in all honesty unless this is for "emergency use only" you really want an original one. Your dealer (or Joe) can get it for you. It's about $110 and they have to send off for it, they have it cut by referencing your VIN, so if you've swapped tumblers or locks they'll need the VIN of the donor car. I can personally attest to the gumminess from using an aftermarket key on my pass door.

As for remotes, verify the code you need for your car, and watch ebay, the programming instructions are on NICO somewhere and should be fairly easy to find, as I found them when I wanted to program additional remotes for one of my Q's. The Q I bought in APril has 6 remotes .

There are some universal remotes you can buy that can operate OEM keyless systems but they aren't very good IMO. Besides, you need a working remote to copy from. It's quite easy to get OEM remotes, I see them on e-bay once in a while. There is a web site I've used occationally for hard to find remotes.

http://www.remotesunlimited.comPart number 101-1101 they want $144.95 for it.

Joe @ Infiniti of Scottsdale has them for $94.81. I notice you are here in Phoenix. If you want that price you need to call him first. He's not supposed to sell at his discounted prices at the counter.

I only have one but never use it as I have an aftermarket system but I don't think I want to part with it in case I need it for some reason some day.

For $100 (the cost of one remote) you can get a pretty nice aftermarket keyless system. The locks and trunk are simple, even the fuel door, and with a little research and testing the window roll down with the OEM system should be duplicatable. Last resort you could add your own window roll up/down modules but using the OEM system would be cool.

I'm in the Phoenix area so if you want any help let me know.
