My 90 Q45's fuel pump and FPCU were replaced three weeks ago and now my fuel gauge fluctuates, sometimes as much as a 1/4 of a tank below where it should be. I begin to notice it after I'm down to about 3/4 of a tank and really see the fluctuation at 1/2 a tank.

It only fluctuates as I'm driving and once I stop, the gauge will slowly return to the correct reading. What's the fix?

Also, I smelled oil and found I have a leaky valve cover, but I also have 2 of the bolts missing. Is this something I can order or do I need to canvas the salvage yards?

You can order the bolts from Joe when you get the valve cover gaskets. If you get third parte source for the bolts, just make sure they meet specifications stated in the FSM.

Did you bend the sender unit or damage it so it doesn't travel freely?

I bought the Q at an auction and a friend changed the FP & FPCU to get it running for me. He didn't mention having any trouble installing the FP, nor did he mention damaging anything, though that may be the problem.

Is this something easy to change? If not, I can probably live with it, just very annoying.

Easy, but you will need a new O ring at least.

90 valve covers are RTV'd on, no gaskets.if your friend di not remove the rear seat and parcel deck, then it's almost certain that the float got bent putting pump back in.

chain guides?

My valve cover gasket is leaking a tad bit... ill say meybe 1 drop per 15 to 20 mins of driving.. Its more or less embarrasing rather than irritating. It smokes when ppl tend to look at my ride so, it kills me. Im almost determined to do this myself, but with not physical guidance i dont think i can do it. I was thinking of takeing some new parts outta my 93 and inserting it in the 95 like spark plugs.. since im gonna need to do gaskets, but im skeptical. So wat should i do.. my mech said no less than 500$ and shouldnt be more than 600$. Wat ya think?
