The clear coat on my hood is coming up pretty bad, obviously a sign its been repainted. Ive been calling local body shops trying to find the original clear coat used on the car without luck, I also called a local paint store and they have never heard of it. am i beating a dead horse?

Not sure why it'd be much different than any other clearcoat - Just have it wetsanded and re-cleared.

ask for a cross-linking type hard clearcoat{probobly all of them are today, unlike way back in 1990} when infiniti was using a upgraded version of clear.

Might be best to sand it down completely and repaint with regular paint.

Do you guys remember those commercials with the uber cool british guy? I remember one of them showed him shooting a suction cup dart gun at the car and the suction cups falling off.The message was about how Infiniti used florine and had one of the most advanced paint jobs on earth for any car at any price, And if suction cups wont stick to this paint nothing will. Anyway fast foward 16 years and my black 1990 still looks almost like it has a showroom finish. Except for the hood of coarse. I just wanted to get the clear that I know will still be there in 15 years(ya im keeping the car forever). "Cross linking type clear coat" huh, sounds good to me.thanks for the advise.
