Just looking for some quick opinions ...

Car (1995 Q45, lowered ~1") currently riding on 245/45 tires mounted on 18x7.5 +35 with no rubbing/clearance issues at all.

Have also run 225/45 on 18x8 +30, 245/45 on 18x8.5 +33 & 245/40 on 18x7.5 +35 with no issues.

Looking to mount 255/45 tires on 17x8.5 +42.

Given the offset calc #'s, I don't expect any issue, but I wanted to hear your opinions.

Car requires a 95 (or higher) load rating tire, and I do not want to run any stretch.

Also, any tire suggestions, keep in mind I'm after I high load rating (think 98 or higher) and a low wear rating (mid to low 200's). No all seasons please.

fronts are gonna rub.

i have 18 X 8.0 +40 as you well know, and it's *tight*. less than 2 mm.

+42 is a really high offset Rex, like GQ said, you'll probably rub (suspension parts). Much better in 8.5" width would be a +20-25 offset. Or at least you'll need like 1" spacers.

Kevin - I'm almost positive an 8.5 +20 or 25 wheel would have some outside rubbing issues on a G50.

Let me run down what I've used to date ... (sorry, this is going to get long)

On my car car when I bought itNo name 17x7 +40 w/ 245/45 (sunken)

OEM's I've triedQ45 (F50) 17x7.5 +40 (I think) 225/55 (winter but not snow tires)

G35 Coupe 17x7.5 +30 225/50 & 17x8 +33 235/50 (close to outer fender)

350Z "Blacks" 17x7.5 +30 & 17x8 +33 (close to outer fender)

350Z Track 18x8 +30 225/45 & 18x8.5 245/45 +33 The rears were very close to outer fender, but IIRC I could "almost" put a golf ball in between the rear tire and suspension

Murano 18x7.5 +35 245/40F 245/45R No clearance ISSUES

The most sunken I've had was 17x7 +40, these in comparison would be 22 MM closer to the suspension, which for those of you "playing at home" is length of the word Infiniti on the big heavy stock Q45 (G50) Key. Figure in 5 more MM for the wider tires (planned 255/45, versus current 245/45) and 27 MM is the distance from the beginning I to the edge of the key, measuring the long way across the "sphere". This concerns me??? (see pic)

The closest comparison I've had is the 350Z Track wheels/tires 18x8.5 +33 245/45. If I were to run the same size tire, I would have (theoretically) 9 MM more clearance on the fender side and 9 MM less on the suspension side.

Using other as a reference, Jeff Williams has 18x8 +35 245/45 & 18x9 +45 275/35, and according to the 1010 wheel offset calculator the 17x8.5 +42 wheels would have 3 MM more fender side clearance and 9 MM more suspension side clearance, and given I'll be running a narrower rear tire, I should have a little more breathing room.

In short, I "may" need a spacer up front, but if so, I'm only looking for 5 MM from what I can tell. If you've read and pondered all that please weigh in with your thoughts .

First I've seen a Q key used as a measuring device...

My 275/40/18's rub a tiny amount over large bumps, and at full lock turnnig... Not enough to make me change them out.

I figured it would serve as a good visual scale .

You're running the Q45 Premium 18x8 +40's, IIRC.

I wonder if GQ Jay's issue is in any way related to his car being an "active"?

I'm ready to order tires, but don't want some that won't work. Maybe the best thing would be to get the tire shop to mount up a scrap 255/45 then I could take it home and do a real test fit on both axles???

i had 8.5 with 37 up front and it would rub under full turn (on the 3rd link).... however i was running 245-45-17! not enough to really matter IMO, but another 5mm would only be worse.... ideally i think a 10mm spacer up front would be perfect, and the rears would sit fine but you may chose...

we dont have that much room up front...

It will on a G50. On an 18x9 with 255/40, +35mm is tight to the fender lip.

Totally different front suspension design on a G50 from the MacPherson strut on the FY33.

From what I can tell the "issue" is front wheel/tire suspension clearance.

I was thinking mainly about rear and fender clearance .

I'll have to see what options I have. I only have ~$175 in the wheels including shipping. Finding a set of 7.5's with the right offset would make 2 nice staggered sets.

Oh well, Maybe I can find a Maxima guy looking to put a set of monsters on his car?

it's tight to the 3rd link. i'm running 245/45 with i think a 9.8 section width--not completely sure on that would have to check TR site for specs.don't think the active has much to do woth it, as none of the active stuff is close by.

i have some pix of dry fitment without skins in members rides.

Although the front suspension is obviously different, the offsets which are low, are not even close to the suspension, so that is completely irrelevant. What I'm saying is get them closer to the fenders. I know for a fact that a 8.5" +20 works on the front of G50's from cars I've seen. +35 should be no where close to the fender.

8.5 +20 with what tire? Im not asking to be a jerk but to know for sure, ive been toying with the idea of getting some NISMO wheels, theyd be sex on the Q, IMO.

I'd really like to see a G50 with an 8" with anything below a 30 offset. I ran some Z33 wheels at one time and they were CLOSE to the fender and I it wasn't cause of using an "over-tire".

Did a test fit of the wheel alone today and realized they're only 8" wide, not 8.5". So, if I use something along the lines of a 235/50 on the front and 255/45 on the rear I should be okay.

He's right. Most of you guys just seem to love fat rubber. If you stretch tire like we do you can run some really great offsets with a wider track and sick dish. As usual to each his own, but really, to me the Q45 isn't about performance, it's about luxury and cruising.

Should be able to run 245/45-18 all around. 100 load rating, but a little tall.

Anyone who doesn't enjoy the performance of the Q45 probably doesn't have a properly maintained and good performing Q45. Might as well cruise in a Buick.

Given all the sizes and numbers above it's easy to get sidetracked, but these are 17" OZ Racing wheels.

As for "stretched" tires, to me that's like politics and religion, peoples opinions differ and there's no need to agree. I will not however run stretched tires on any of my Q45's. As mentioned in the thread originating post.

Woops! Lost it. 245/5017 may be best then for a 17x8 wheel. Any good ones available?

Stretched is worse than religion and politics; it is beyond way stupid. There is a reason why tire manufacturers design for the wheel sizes they specify. Physics of engineering cannot be changed by fashion.

Well, I'm "okay with" running staggered size tires on non-staggered wheels. I want to make sure I have plenty of 3rd link (suspension) clearance on the front.

Currently thinking of 235/50/17 front 255/45/17 rear.

OptionsFront- 235/50/17Sumitomo HTR+ - 100 load rating , 360 wear Avon Tech M500 - 96 load rating , 280 wear better

- 235/45/17 (~1/2" touch short)* Yokohama AVS ES100 - 97 load rating better, 280 wear better* Continental ContiSportContact 2 - 97 load rating better, 280 wear betterPirelli PZero Nero - 97 load rating better, 220 wear Yokohama ADVAN Sport - 97 load rating better, 180 wear Pirelli PZero Rosso - 97 load rating better, 220 wear

Rear- 255/45/17Sumitomo HTR Z - 98 load rating , 160 wear Sumitomo HTR Z II - 98 load rating , 220 wear Sumitomo HTR+ - 98 load rating , 360 wear Kumho ECSTA SPT - 98 load rating , 320 wear Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 - 98 load rating , 280 wear betterKumho ECSTA ASX - 98 load rating , 420 wear NO thanksKumho ECSTA MX - 98 load rating , 220 wear Fuzion ZRi - 98 load rating , 320 wear Continental ContiSportContact - 98 load rating , 280 wear betterMichelin Pilot Sport - 98 load rating , 220 wear

I've got 18" versions of the *'ed ones on a Q now and have been happy with them to dat.

So, as I see it, my "better" options are either the Sumitomo HTR+'s (not thrilled with the high wear rating) or the Continental ContiSportContact/ContiSportContact 2's combo (realizing the fronts would be a touch short). Given that the winter mess has set in here, I'm in no hurry to act.

FYI, I generally replace my tires yearly ~10k or less, so tire life isn't a huge issue.

Would still love to find a set of used BBS 17x8/9's, but dreams end when you wake up.

The wheels are 8 not 8.5 as I mistakenly mentioned before.

Also, I did a test fit Sunday after the Bengals beat the Raiders and while I agree it will be close, I'm fairly sure there won't be any contact unless under severe turning or "leaning" conditions. I still may run a 5mm hubcentric spacer. Of course, I may still just sell these to a Maxima guy and find something wider with better offsets. You know I want to run something real wide in the back, like Jeff .

Hope you are not seriously considering mixing brands, or even different compounds of same brand, on front and rear axles!

Why yes, I am

I'm currently running Cont SportConti2's on the front and Yoko's on the rears. What would be considered a valid concern of mixing brands/compounds between front and rear axles, as long as I wasn't mixing wear values significantly?
